Fatal Fire On Atkins This Morning - 1 Dead

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

At around 6:50 this morning "Tesh" a resident on Atkins Avenue heard a pounding on his door and screaming. He went to the door to find a woman telling that the house next door was on fire to call the Fire Department which he did immediately, they were there within 5 minutes to find 2138 Atkins engulfed in smoke as Fire Truck one crew went in the front door, engine company 2 went in the back door within seconds they found a male male unconscious and drag him out of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished and the resident they found inside taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

You might recognize the bike...

The bike pictured above and the house belonged to Bob Toomey, a person we have all
seen around Lakewood. A one armed skinny long haired guy that biked everywhere. He
was often seen in summer shirtless as he peddled the streets of Lakewood.

Bob was also know for growing spectacular sunflowers.

The person that died has not been identified, but according to neighbors, it was Bob they
took out.

Please wait until he has been officially identified.

RIP

To our fire and police departments, I know this is very upsetting but all reports are you
were there faster than anyone of the street could believe, and went in to a burning house
in force.

Thank you for your efforts once again.
