DIRECTORS OF ATHLETICS, TEACHING & LEARNING HIRED

The Lakewood Board of Education at a special meeting June 7 approved the hiring of Sean Jackson, the current Director of Athletics and Student Activities for Bedford High School, as the district’s next Athletic Director and Roxann Ramsey, Principal of Grant Elementary, as the next Director of Teaching & Learning K-12.

Jackson will replace Bob Thayer, who is retiring after eight years with the district, and Ramsey replaces Mark Gleichauf, who accepted a position with another district. Both begin their new positions Aug. 1.

Jackson has been involved in interscholastic athletics in every capacity as student athlete, coach and administrator for over 25 years. Jackson also serves as Athletic Director for Bedford’s Heskett Middle School.

Jackson spent 12 years as the head wrestling coach for Bedford High and was named Lake Erie League Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008. During that time he also taught Social Studies at Bedford before taking on the role of AD.

Jackson holds several degrees from Cleveland State including a BA in History, Master of Education in Sports Management and a Master of Education in Administration. He plans to move to Lakewood.

Ramsey served as the district’s Coordinator of Teaching & Learning for one year before becoming principal of Grant in 2010. Ramsey is very knowledgeable in curriculum development and the state school improvement process, which will serve her well in her new position.

She holds a BA in English and Secondary Education and a Master of Arts in Education Administration and Supervision from John Carroll University. She received her Superintendent's Licensure in May 2010.
