BeckFest 2013 -- In One Hour!!

Post by Betsy Voinovich »

There's a big party at the Beck today and it starts early. If you don't want to miss the free Improv performance and the donuts you'd better get moving.

Music, art for kids, galleries, food, on a beautiful day.
See you there.

Here's Fran Storch's story from the current issue of the Lakewood Observer. To get the full agenda of events-- and times-- go to their site.

BeckFest 2013: A Free Community Festival At Beck Center
by Fran Storch

Beck Center for the Arts invites its neighbors and the community to attend BeckFest, a free family-friendly event on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the Beck Center campus. Participants will enjoy art activities, cycling themed artwork, Zumba, yoga, food trucks, and stunt cycling performances by 216Bike; as well as musical entertainment on the Red Stage featuring Jerry Popiel, Chris Hatton, Fireside, The Madison Crawl, and Revolution Brass Band.

Cycling enthusiasts may also ride in the second annual Bike for Beck, a fundraiser to benefit the arts education programs at Beck Center. Cyclists choose from 12-, 15- or 60-mile routes through the scenic Cleveland Metroparks with snack and water stops along the way. Rider registration and the bike tour begin at 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Beck Center. A $40 registration fee includes a Bike for Beck t-shirt and rider packet. For more information visit bikeforbeck.org.

Roads will not be closed for this event. Area businesses are encouraged to participate in this community festival and the public is invited to attend. Beck Center for the Arts is located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. Free onsite parking is available. For more information about this community event, please call Beck Center Customer Service at 216.521.2540, ext. 10.

Winding down!

Too much going on but here's some of what happened at the BeckFest besides many bike riders showing up having ridden many miles to raise money for Bike for Beck, which was part of the Beck Fest.

Fox 8 was there early on, interviewing Cindy Einhouse about the event which looked to be even more successful than last year's. (Yes the interviewer is a Beck Center performer.)

The kids came home with necklaces, wind chimes, and bicycle reflector jewelry. (Mine is the coolest.)

Something Dada did improv with the 10 AM audience, taking us on a wild ride of a movie whose genre kept switching from romance to documentary to horror. Really fun and really funny. They perform weekly at the Beck Center and are also conducting a camp this summer if you like to watch (and maybe do) improv.

And the donuts were deep-fried before our eyes, covered with powdered sugar and served hot and crispy.

That was just the beginning...
