Ticket worthy speed on Clifton
I was taking my dog for a walk today and had a nice chat with a Lakewood Police Officer running radar on Clifton. I recommended they ticket over 40 and he laughed saying he would be there all day. I mentioned it would keep folks safer and bring in revenue for the city. I then asked how fast is too fast.
Anyone care to guess how fast you have to be going on Clifton to get a ticket? (at least according to this officer)

Since today is a weekday, knowing the time of day and the direction the officer
was hunting in would make the answer a bit more interesting. I say 39 mph. would
be an "on the record " type of response. School zone excesses treated any
differently ?

Russell,
It was at 5:15 he was aiming at westbound traffic, 39 is too low.

This is a great question, I know that sometimes I have been amazed at just
how efficiently the three lanes of traffic get through our city. Carry on.

Heres my guess. I'd say they figure 10 miles over is "acceptable" so if the speed limit is 35, anything up to 45 is OK. They probably only ticket if they clock you at 46 or higher.

Grace,
You are pretty close. This officer told me that 45 mph gets his attention but he does that ticket until over 50!
I thought that was really fast for a street with 2 schools on it. Any thoughts?

Sometimes absolute speed isn't the only factor. If a driver is driving aggressively, changing lanes often or otherwise erratic 40mph might be enough for a ticket.
