Re: Cold Weather is the problem....
this chart begs some fact checking, see how many homicides Chicago thinks it had.

Why is the Chicago homicide number jacked-up by 300 people ?
The correspondent death per 100k also follows this.

Re: Cold Weather is the problem....
it is largely an ethnic or cultural difference.
along with demographics and population density.
houston is, for the most part, a giant suburb.
it's about six hundred square miles large.
Chicago got richer earlier, and so had more white flight after world war two and all the subsidies and government incentives for suburbia. People much less likely to shoot each other moved to the suburbs earlier in greater numbers. a comparison of murder rates should include cook county for comparison to Houston.
The most important conclusion to make...
is that Chicago has so many guns already
if you opened gun stores there, there would not be a significant increase in gun ownership rates or availability.

I agree, a specious lay-down of certain numbers to support a conclusion that
doesn't necessarily follow.
When I search the number of Chicago homicides in 2012 I get 506, not 806.

And is why people in this country aren't getting smarter...willful ignorance of facts and a abysmal understanding of basic statistics.

It's also cold in Ohio. And it's even colder in Central MA. And in Alaska.
Big whoop.
