Is There A Market For A Summer Circulator

Would a City run circulator make any economic sense during the Summer months? Would Lakewood residents be more likely to go the restaurants on Detroit if they could catch a bus?

They could run from 4 -11 PM. Round and round in circles all day down Lake from Belle to Sloane down Detroit and back down Belle to begin the process all over again.

An other option would be a fleet of bike-cabs!

City Council's Public Safety Committee will be discussing bike related-issues at their Monday, April 01, 2013 meeting ... 5:30 PM in the Jury Room of Lakewood City Hall, 12650 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio.

A son of a friend moved from Lakewood to Chicago five years ago or so. He was in town for a visit last weekend. As he drove down Detroit he said, "Lakewood is cool!." His mother pointed out that it "looked fun".

Detroit is looking good, attracting business and positive comments everwhere but the Plain Dealer. Street scapping can make a difference and that does include lighting. There is also a natural inclination for the under 35 crowd to prefer what is offered in Lakewood to what is offered in the outer burbs.

The City seems to be moving forward. The Mayor and council members, the business community and others all deserve credit.

All we need now is for someone to kick Forest City in the butt to get them moving on their Rockport project or to convince them to DONATE the land to the City. The donation would partially compensate the City for the damage done by the project.

Actually the City of Lakewood was not the issue, completely. Law Director Kevin Butler
was open to the idea, but wanted them on Madison and Detroit, not on side streets for
at least two years while it was studied.

The insurance was found, and was semi-reasonable, but the finances did not add up.

The way the cabs work, is sell advertising to cover everything, and "riders/drivers" work
for below minimum wage and tips, which add up. We were looking at a commitment of
about $40,000 in advertising a yer to make it work. We wanted a 2-3 year commitment
from those advertisers for stability. It never happened.

The "riders/drivers" also thought it would not be worth their effort not being able to take
people to their home with groceries, after dinner etc.. Where the "good tip" would be paid.

But City Hall was open to it, LakewoodAlive was open to it.

I suppose in a city that yells walkable at every opportunity that we should either drop that
and go with more damn buses, or work on better and wider sidewalks for walking. It is
the old 100 year old argument, walk or trollies.
