If the levy co-chairs - Mayor Mike Summers and/or Christina Gill McCallum - cannot participate in the LOKOL Public Forum, the levy campaign committee does have numerous “official” speakers who are dividing up community events. So far, I understand that there has not been a problem getting in to speak to about 20-25 events. I’m sure they can fit in an LOKOL Public Forum as well – especially since The Lakewood Observer was one of the first entities to officially endorse the school levy.

Matt - While I do not conduct LO business via The Deck, I thank you for your offer and will be in touch. I will say this:

- The For Lakewood Schools Levy Committee has been invited several ways to participate in a LOKOL forum.
- Representation from the anti-levy community is lined up.
- I will not present a LOKOL Public Forum unless both sides are represented.
- If the forum is presented, it will not be a formal debate ... but rather a opportunity for both side to present their case (most likely with moderation) and the opportunity for the public to also chime in.

I've requested some information from the treasurer that I would like to share. Will participants in the discussion be allowed to hand out literature?

Peter,

I'm hoping that the success of this weekend's LakewoodAlive Lakewood Observer Know Our Lakewood Series is a good indication of things to come. See http://www.lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11655.

While I know that you do not conduct the business of The Lakewood Observer via The Observation Deck, is there any update on a LOKOL school levy forum?

Peter,

I know that you follow City Hall better than most of us.

Has anyone at City Hall formally endorsed Issue 14 in their respective official capacities as the Mayor, City Council Member, “City Council” ... or even the Department of Planning and Development Director?

Below are my prior posts on this issue.

In the past, City Hall has officially endorsed school levies.

Did I miss the press release?

In the meantime, we are still waiting to hear from Shawn Juris ...

I guess these things take time, Michael.

I wonder whether City Hall will formally endorse the upcoming school levy - if it hasn't already. Maybe I missed that announcement, which is certainly possible.

I'm assuming that the City Hall Administration is formally endorsing the school levy since Mayor Mike Summers is the co-chair of the school levy committee.

Ward 3 Councilman Shawn Juris can put the issue of whether he supports the Lakewood City Schools to rest by sponsoring a resolution formally putting City Council's endorsement on the school levy ... and voting for it ... no abstentions, please.

As an aside, I beleve that The Lakewood Observer was one of the first entities to formally endorse the school levy.

Matt -

I am not aware of any formal endorsement from any branch of Lakewood government. (though, frankly, there are lots of folks who follow City Hall more deeply than I.)

I have scoured The City of Lakewood website http://www.onelakewood.com/Default.aspx and did not see such a press release.

The less charitable interpretation of the mutual endorsement society is:

I'll support your raise if you support mine.

I can't quite figure out why the success of the City of Lakewood and its schools depends on how much money we send to Avon Lake.

I wonder how the Honorable Shawn Juris of Ward 3 will vote.
