Hi all,
If you've never been to the cardboard boat regatta, today is the day!
It starts right after school-- around 3pm at the Lakewood High School pool. The teachers and the kids make the boats, so it's pretty crazy.
I hear that there is a special surprise this year that I am not allowed to reveal on penalty of some kind of snowball attack from 4th and 5th graders so that's all I can say--- but it is not to be missed!
Here are a couple of photos from past years... from Lakewood Observer photo blogs. (search Lakewood regatta, Lakewood Observer, if you want to see more. These ones are from here:http://lakewoodobserver.com/photoblogs/ivor-karabatkovic/7th-annual-lhs-physics--cardboard-boat-regata. By Ivor Karabatkovic of course.)
The Lakewood Times boat tips over, and Thealexa Becker gets caught underneath the sinking ship.
That's our Thealexa.
Looks like a great time.
See you there.

Wow, that was nuts.Sold out event. Standing room only. Each entrant had their own cheering section. Way noisier than a football game. Some were born racers, others' boats sank immediately or came apart after a couple strokes. Physics in action!

Destiny's Child boat, pulling in.

Destiny's Child team one of the winners!

The canoe model was a winner.

On you mark, get set, tip over!

More winners.

Mr. McGuan's cheering section.

The place was packed!
