City Hall and Levy Committee Seek Block Club Help!

Post by marklingm »

From City Hall:

From: Tuttle, Michael [mailto:Michael.Tuttle@lakewoodoh.net]
Sent: Friday, February 15, 2013 2:07 PM
To: Tuttle, Michael
Subject: School Levy

As you know, the Lakewood School District is putting a levy on the ballot May 7th. The Levy Committee would like to send a representative to speak at Block Club Meetings. We will have a Captains Meeting on April 2nd at 7:00 in the Auditorium. A speaker for the levy may address the group. An agenda for the meeting will be sent in early March. If you have a Block Club Meeting before May seventh, and want a speaker, contact me or the Christina McCallum at cgillmac@hotmail.com. She is the head of the Levy Committee.

As a point of clarification, Mayor Mike Summers is the co-chair of the Levy Committee with Christina McCallum so you can contact Mike at mike.summers@lakewoodoh.net, too.

Matt,

Do you know if city tax dollars are being spent on promoting this levy? I notice this email is coming from a city worker during the work day. Not trying to be a pain just wondering how the full time mayor is running this.

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan,

I don’t know the answers to your questions.

All that I know is that, rather than simply turning over block captain information to his own levy committee, Mayor and Public Safety Director Michael P. Summers sent me the following email:

From: Summers, Mike [mailto:Mike.Summers@lakewoodoh.net]
Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 4:56 PM
To: Matt Markling; Christina Gill McCallum
Cc: Tuttle, Michael; Butler, Kevin
Subject: RE: Levy Committee Meeting

Christina and Matt,

Mike Tuttle, block club Coordinator, will send an email to all block captains offering the opportunity to invite a speaker on behalf of the levy at any meeting prior to May 7th.

The next block captains meeting is April 2nd. Mike Tuttle will place a levy speaker on the agenda of this meeting to provide information about the levy.

I am sensitive to the boundary between city business, citizen interest, personal privacy and political advocacy. I believe the aforementioned approach will respect this boundary.

Mike Summers

I’m assuming that the Mayor must be worried about some "legal issue" – ranging from public record or election law violations – because he copied Law Director Kevin M. Butler on his email to me and his levy committee co-chair.

Or, maybe the Mayor copies his Law Director on all communication to citizens?

Send the Mayor your questions and find out.

Matt
