should active and retired police be exempt from new gun laws

It appears new york is going to ad an exemption to their new law for current and retired police. Is this right?

it is a state law. it is democracy. if New Yorkers don't like it, they can vote in legislators to erase the law.

I understand that it is allowed, but is it right for retired police to be treated with favoritism? Should retired military get the same benefit?
