Gangs Of Bikers Invade Lakewood Saturday

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Saturday morning I stopped by St. Clements Saturday morning for Chief Jack Kilbane's funeral
after it was over I jumped in the car and headed off to the office. As I was coming down
Warren Road I could see maybe ten motorcyclists riding two by two a couple lights in front
of me. Thinking it was always interesting seeing who rides motorcycles in winter, it had
to be more than exciting to see what ten people would be out riding in the dead of winter.

Suddenly they were gone! So I continued to my office when all of a sudden there was a roar
of engines to my left, and they there were coming out of the Marc's Plaza coming right at
me, when the light changed and we were all stopped.

In an instant they took off down the sidewalk, ten big Harleys riding down the sidewalk,
how could this be legal, some nightmare out of "The Wild Ones," the movie that set the
tone for all motorcycle gangs to follow...

Nope, just the motorcycle patrol that lead Chief Kilbane's body to rest.

Jim,

Did you find out what they were doing driving on the sidewalk? How can this be legal, oh wait, they are the law...

I do really appreciate the work of our police force but I have called city hall countless times for officers breaking the law. I guess I am just old school thinking that they should lead as an example.

I do live right near a side street off clifton so I see them roll through stop signs without blinkers all the time. As well as speeding while not in pursuit and lane changes without a blinker. All basic driving rules that would get you and I a ticket or at least a warning. :)

Ryan

I keep thinking of ...

But in actuality I had come from the event, and was pretty sure they were looking for a place to
take a break for lunch.

I should also mention they were careful making sure the sidewalks were clear.

Still, I couldn't help but see the irony as police are ticketing 4 seat peddle cars for being in the
street, and as you pointed out, I have to think that if that was you and I, tickets might be issued.

Still I appreciate what the police do.
