Sidewalks

Subject: Sidewalks

Just a reminder that property owners are responsible for cleaning the sidewalks in a timely manner. The police would like to keep as many kids out of the streets and on the sidewalk as possible. If you have a problem with a particular property, contact Mary Simon at 529-7697. Please let me know if I can help or when you have Block Club Meetings
Hope you all have a healthy, happy new year.
Mike

I would like to respond to this in 2 ways.
First as a business owner in Lakewood and second as a citizen of Lakewood

Not a single day goes by that all of us at Lakewood Hardware do not try and figure out the best way to support our patrons. Either with the expanding of inventory items per customer request, searching for domestically made items or by finding ways to keep our prices as low as possible. However we will not sacrifice the safety of the people walking the streets in order for us to get out on time. The buck stops here. When it snows we have the additional task to clear the sidewalks and if that means staying late or coming in early or contracting with someone that's that and it shall be done. Here it is a week after the last snowfall and storefronts are STILL covered in ice and snow. Hey shopkeepers "it's not my building" or "the landlord is responsible" aint making it. If you want my business and you want the people of Lakewood to shop local and support "small business Sat" you better start showing us that you care about US by shoveling your storefront. I don't mean a small path to the street, the whole storefront. You cannot expect people to believe in something that your actions prove you don't believe in.

Hallelujah where's the Tylenol?

I'm with you, Glenn. I have a corner lot and clear more than a double length of sidewalk plus a crosswalk apron filled by snowplows. It comes with the territory. We cut grass and sweep in the summer, rake leaves in the fall, and clear snow in the winter.

My favorite are the people who shovel their front walks but not their sidewalks. Who really uses the front walk? Kids and families use the sidewalk to go up and down the street. Mail carriers go porch to porch regardless of walkways. If you are out there to shovel at least clear the area that is used - the sidewalk.

And if you have kids or young adults in the house and you don't think enough to shovel - shame on you.
