Schools No Threat, Mayan Calendar! Official Release.

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

From a city that used to personify Civic Intelligence...

POLICE, DISTRICT INVESTIGATE RUMORS, NO THREAT FOUND Rumors have been circulating about a possible threat of a shooting at Lakewood High School today. District and Lakewood Police officials have been investigating this rumor since last night and found no validity to it. The high emotions of the week related to the Mayan calendar "end of the world" prediction has prompted some additional rumors. Please know that our students’ safety is our top concern and we are taking these rumors very seriously and all have been found to be only rumors. Additional security, including Lakewood Police Officers, will be in and around the high school today as a safety precaution. We also encourage anyone who witnesses anything suspicious to share these concerns with administration or call our 24-hour security hotline at 216-227-5311. Thank you for your support and cooperation

I fear, no amount of lobbying or PR Agency handwork will counter act, Schools mentioning
the end of the world according to the Mayan Calendar.

Some of my friends that have left, have said, intellectual capital in Lakewood is falling to
an all time low. Of course it is usually their leaving that becomes the tipping point.

However, Mayan Calendar rumors?

Really?

That had to be added?

Really?

Just curious what steps the schools were taking if the Mayans were right?

Hmmmm.....not sure if you inadvertently left out an important part of the release or if they added it later, but the actual sentence in the middle is (bolding mine to show what was left off of the above quote):

"The high emotions of the week related to the Mayan calendar "end of the world" prediction and aftermath of the Sandy Hook tragedy has prompted some additional rumors."

http://www.lakewoodcityschools.org/

Basically, the combination has increased the rumor mill and the school wanted us to know what was going on. Their paragraph is not damaging at all, at least in my opinion.

Not sure why this would be embarrassing at all and actually applaud the school district for communicating it on their website.

I have some friends via the net over in Europe ..a few in England, 5 hours ahead of Eastern time, and they're still there. I'm guessing getting into the "Spirits" of Christmas, but hey ..like other friends of mine have said .."any excuse for a party" .. :D
