illiteracy is way to kind of a word to describe people who hated Bush for adding $5 Trillion to the National Debt in 8 years then worship Obummer for doing the same thing in 3.. The day after the election the Noble Peace prize winner order a drone attack on a Yemen target that killed several individuals and may have included a civilian casuality.. Hope and Change continues

I believe Kate was being humorous but seriously many people who use the phones refer to them as Obamaphones thus also showing their ignorance. It's funny they should be Bushphones, after all Bush gets blamed for anything, well anything negative.

the "Obama Phone" phenomena is marketed by private companies to move product.
sometimes it involves abusing the "Lifeline" program begun by the Reagan administration.
sometimes it does not use that program, but markets it as a "free" or "obama phone" because it is a popular fad to use those words.
The "lifeline" program was expanded to cell phones by the Bush 2 administration.

reform for the foodstamp program is straightforward enough. no fastfood. maybe such caveats already exist. it can be expanded to no meat; eggs and cheese and milk are enough. no frozen microwave meals. back in the 80s when the folks were occasionally laid off or working for low wages, the united way would occasionally give them sacks of dry beans, flour, cornflower, rice, sugar, potatoes, and cheese. and that was enough.

Mike Deneen said….
“sour grapes.”
Well one of the two of us is a small business owner, employing about 30 people right now. That being me, let me tell you a couple things….
(1) If my business is “successful” I pay darn near 70% of my net business income in taxes. Go ahead and challenge me on that and I will gladly fill you in. And if I fail I lose most or all of my savings. Doesn’t sound like a great value proposition on the face of it.
(2) Starting and operating a small business is pretty darn stressful. You have to be willing to re-finance your house, be willing to hire and fire people, “small” stuff like that.
Then you have some prick-in-chief who says “you didn’t build that.”
If I had it to do all over again I never would. And I can’t recommend to my daughters that they become makers. Becoming a taker is so much easier and without risk. The way things are today, becoming a maker and being well-enough rewarded for it, that’s a slim possibility at best.
If I recall, Kate P. has posted that she has family that runs businesses and I know EXACTLY where she comes from.

You seem to view the world in two camps, "makers" and "takers".
Are you saying I'm a "taker"?
What are you basing this on, exactly?

Too funny all the whining about small business. I have several family members that own small businesses in different industries and EVERY OWNER voted for Obama.
As they said to me, "people who whine about their taxes probably should get out of business, then. If they can't pay their taxes and make money, then maybe they aren't as savvy a business person as they think they are."

Reminds me of Carter's luxury tax on sailboats.. He killed an entire industry in the name of taxing the rich but ended up only hurting the working man and woman. They are squarely blaming the new Medical Device Excise Tax and the Obama administration for the Kalamazoo-based company's decision.
“We’ve already got the highest unemployment rate in the country,” said Charlie Owens, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business. “Clearly, the federal law is aggravating the problem and it’s undermining the state’s effort to improve the economic climate.”
Stryker Chairman, President and CEO Stephen P. MacMillan said the decision was a result of “a challenging economic environment and a market slowdown in elective medical procedures,” as well as the need to prepare for the new tax.

It's hard to take these kind of poorly researched stories at face value (basically interviewing the CEO). If there's more to the story, i.e., the company has been poorly run and maybe the tax is a scapegoat for layoffs, it's not really explored. And one of the most compelling factoids is in the comments box .. that he was a significant contributor to Obama and left PACs. Gotta ask that question, don't you? Sounds like he might have an issue with focus.

Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with cost of legislation
Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with cost of legislation
I think it's a terrible thing. It's ridiculous that the maximum hours we can give people is 28 hours a week instead of 40,' said Metz to the Huffington Post.
'It's going to force my employees to go out and get a second job.'
Obamacare requires businesses or franchises with more than 50 workers must offer an approved insurance plan or pay a penalty of $2,000 for each full-time worker over 30 workers.
The program mandates that only employees working more than 30 hours a week are covered under their employers health insurance plan, chains like Olive Garden and Red Lobster are already considering reduced worker hours.
'Obviously, I'd love to cover all our employees under that insurance,' said Metz.
'But to pay $5,000 per employee would cost us $175,000 per restaurant and unfortunately, most of our restaurants don't make $175,000 a year. I can't afford it.'
