when long time resident, and urban farmer Lynn Rodemann mentioned she was working there
and it would be a great place to hold my meetings for a project I was working on. So I tried
it, and it instantly became one of my favorite coffee shops in Cleveland.
Nicole Gillota, owner of Gypsy Bean instantly became one of my favorite business owners,
besides having some of the tastiest creations to come out of a "coffee shop bakery" she is
also one of those people always greeting people with a smile and a great attitude. The
meeting room of Gypsy Beans in one of the most sought after meeting places on the west
side of Cleveland. A private space with a large 12 seat old oak table and good art and photos
on the wall it is easy to see why it often has to be booked weeks in advance. Oh and then
there is the coffee, and the food! Blueberry muffins to die for, croissants, breakfast items,
and their unique pizza. All just incredibly good.
Well enough about that place, today they are in Lakewood, and I am glad, and it is great
seeing good business people like Nicole see the value of opening in Lakewood.

Gypsy Beans, 17823 Detroit Avenue

7 am sharp, and open for business. This is a great change from Paul, who used to open
most mornings, sometimes.

While not drastically different looking than the Beck Cafe, the differences are plenty, and
plenty good to eat and drink.

Fresh baked pastries and sweets, brought in fresh daily from W65th, and restocked
throughout the day will make sure you are never at a loss for what to have with coffee.
Speaking of coffee...

In the past Beck offered hazelnut coffee, and coffee with the weak taste of hazelnut. Those
days are gone. This is now a coffee shop with the full assortment than can only be found
at a couple places in town.
This is yet another wonderful place to start the day, meet people, have a bite to eat, get
online and see what is going on. It is one of 4 coffee shops in Lakewood. Real coffee shops
The Root, Panera, Caribou, and now Gypsy Beans.
Coming on strong is Blackbird Bakery, more of a Bakery (damn good) that serves coffee,
Helvetica, that serves coffee and food. KB Confections which does not have their sit down
area open yet but soon. So this throws Gypsy Beans into a very unique spot out of the box.
Nicole, and Gypsy Beans should be a great addition to the Detroit Avenue Chow Line!
Check it out.
The release from the Beck Center follows.
