And now some truth, and a realistic look at things.

The X marks the spot where two dogs ran into each other before they got to the Spooky
Pooch Parade. One a mastiff, one a Pomeranian. The mastiff grabbed the smaller dog,
shook it and broke its neck and it died. It is actually much farther up the hill than the X shows.

Other news sources have blamed this on LakewoodAlive and the volunteers. With a
headline, "Dog Mauled To Death At Spooky Pooch Parade," which is an outright LIE.
It is one of the many reasons we started to the Observer. To stop the bullshit that paints
Lakewood in very negative terms. Another source spread the lies far and wide as well,
though they knew it was a lie.

Look at the photo, the terrible accident happened more than a block from the Spooky
Pooch Parade. The people in charge of Spooky Pooch and the many really hard working
volunteers at the Spooky Pooch Parade, had no idea it even happened, when I spoke with
people involved. Neither dog had been checked in, neither dog was within eye sight of
the Spooky Pooch workers, so it never happened AT Spooky Pooch.

Second, dog owners know if their dogs are dog friendly/social or not. I did not see any
fights at spooky pooch. I saw some snarling, and the workers would tell the owners to
move back, and if they could not keep their dogs under control, to leave.

To pin this terrible moment on Spooky Pooch, LakewoodAlive, or the volunteers is just an
out an out attack on them, and the parade, in what can only be seen as an effort to get
more people to look at their blogs.

PITIFUL - amateur BS that has hurt the entire parade.

To LakewoodAlive, Ian Andrews, Ken Brand, and the volunteers, thank you for the best
Spooky Pooch Parade ever. Ken, you did another great job getting this together.

To the family that lost the dog, I am so sorry this happened.

I have had dogs since I was a kid, there are no bad dogs, just some terrible dog owners.

I am in 100% agreement with you, Jim about reporting the facts and truth with respect to this and all stories. I have written a comment to the editor of the other news source in hopes they he will correct and clarify that the very sad incident took place about 1/3 mile from the Spooky Pooch Parade before the dogs were even checked in. It did not happen at the Parade as the article states! Most of the comments following that article refer to dogs not being able to handle the large crowds, when in fact they were on a residential street on their way to the parade...
We'll see if they issue a correction.

First off news source? No editors? No oversight? Newssource? We are talking about two blogs, one that is owned
by a multinational company that looks at success in $$$$ and cents, not what it does for the community.

Newsource? Be like calling the Lakewood Observer Deck a news source. Laughable. The LO paper has three
level of editors, and a legal department. The LO Paper, a news source, Sun Papers/PeeDee, news source,
just because a blogger tells you they are pros...

There is no reason for Spooky Pooch to be even mentioned what alone, in the headline. Also the dog was not
mauled, it was picked up shaken and its neck and spine broken. No blood, NONE! This is merely bloggers looking
for readership one to appeal an ego, the other to justify a large check. It was an outright attack on Spooky
Pooch Parade, and this city. Just like the hanging of Chas. Geiger. Found guilty before the police even charged,

And now it has been picked up nationally.

Excellent, and people lecture me about community building!

Judy thanks for stepping in.

Jim, we may be talking about two different articles. The article that I read this morning made it clear that the incident took place "Before" and "on the way" to the parade. How the hell could the actions of a dog be blamed on Lakewood Alive or its volunteers? that is insane..

Stephen

"Dog Mauled At Spooky Pooch Parade" which has already been changed twice I am told.

At Spooky Pooch, would mean to most. At the event.

In fact, 98% of LakewoodAlive people didn't even know of the attack. The police were not talking, and those
that saw it, made it pretty clear it was not AT the Spooky Pooch parade. When I found out about it. Seriously
I saw one ask the police and he nodded his head.

Stephen, If I mention dog gets mauled and killed at Stephen Eisel's solstice party. I figure it happened at least
on you property, not a block and a half away. Would you lead with Murder at Eisel's?

Stephen, I know you are so desperately wanting to correct me on this, but think if it had been me. Leading
with blood and guts for no reason, except to get people to the deck. You an many people would be
outraged, and rightfully so. If I had done it for a paycheck, DAMN!

The story is real, and when I found out yesterday, and walked up to check it out, then walked back to
the event, and before LakewoodAlive's Ian Andrews, Ken Brand, etc. even knew of it. I was thinking
the story is not on Spooky Pooch in anyway but on:
1 Rescue dogs - I own 3. I never put them in places where I am unsure how they react. We have a male
for 4 years. He is still spooked by certain things and will never probably play in the dog park with others.
With his friends here, and next door, sure.

2) Dog Aggressive Dogs - People that own dogs know full well how they react with other dogs. Letting a
dog aggressive dog next to another dog without a very tight lease and control is nuts. A certain receipe
for disaster.

3) Big Dog Little Dogs - Another potential recipe for disaster. My wife and I used to show French Mastiffs
with good success. What a large dog can do to a little dog in seconds, is amazing. Head in mouth, shake,
dead dog in seconds.

Good owners, training. But not to grab a viewer and try to get the entire event canned.o Absolutely not.
There are no bad dogs just bad dog owners. LakewoodAlive has people come in and sign waivers. The entire
way in from St. Charles they were 5 police. I saw them more than once address aggressive dogs. Oddly not in
costume. I saw participants, mention to others keep you dog away from mine. Good ownership. And training.
Two of our dogs will do exactly what is asked of them. The other, known as "my dog" listens, kind of,
especially when it is convenient to do so for him. Just like the owner. No bad dogs, just bad owners. I should
be working on that right now, instead of this.

But back to the topic. To connect Spooky Pooch Parade, which as we know also connects LakewoodAlive, the
promoter, and all of he volunteers, and participants as somehow being part and parcel to this terrible event
is nothing more than untrue and sensationalism for the sake of ego and $$$$. And a terrible black eye on
the city now that it seems to have gone national. No matter how many times they edit out
their mistakes, the got the rush, the "big bang" besides they edit all the time and never
note what they have changed.

Go ahead Stephen defend it, you know I am right on this, just like with Chas. Geiger.

Really, trash a great event for a couple more readers?

Really?

Breathing. This was more about the good of this event, and correcting negative sensationalizing
of a couple bloggers, than the bloggers in Lakewood, which can all be a pesky lot, including you and me.

PS - Never stopped breathing.

Stephen

I think we both know the score. Right?

If it was not so rare, why mark the calendar?

At the end of the day I think we both agree with...
