Shameless Plugs - Part II

This thread needs a bump!

I'd like to throw in a shameless plug to Cottage of Flowers on 14519 Madison Avenue. They are within walking distance of our home in Lakewood so I've been going to them for flowers since we moved to the neighborhood. Since I live in Nashville now, I had to put in a out of state order for someone special. The friendly staff there had my order completed in minutes, and I'm sure the recipient is going to be very happy.

Fellas, if you want to make your significant other happy, swing up to Cottage of Flowers and buy her flowers! Even a single flower will do.. it's a sure way to brighten anyone's day.

I decided to bump this thread up to give a "shameless plug" to Luann Baker in the Mayor’s Office and to all the front desk professionals in the Division of Housing & Building.

On Friday, June 29, 2012, I went into City Hall to comply with Lakewood City Ordinance 55-10 – i.e., the dreaded landlord housing license application and permit fee law.

It is always a delight to walk into the Mayor’s Office and Division of Housing & Building and see nothing but smiling faces. And on the same day even!

I am plugging Madison Avenue Car Wash (11832 Madison Ave,). Last year I started taking my car to them because they towel dry my car and use greener methods. Every time I visit them they take the time to say hi and offer really great customer service. They are very enthusiastic about their business--and they do a good job. Today, they gave me a coupon for a little off of a future wash. Thanks to Keith and his staff!

Since I am not shy about raising concerns with City Hall, I will not be shy about giving City Hall a few “shameless plugs.”

Our block is under construction and City Hall and its crew have done everything possible to make an unbearable situation bearable. Really.

As a block captain, I sent an email out to City Hall today with two concerns our neighbors have regarding the construction project. Those concerns are not relevant to this post. What is relevant is that both At-Large Lakewood City Councilman Brian E. Powers and Mayor Mike Summers took both concerns seriously and are looking into them. And, as always, Councilman Powers provided an immediate response.

So, thanks, City Hall!

I guess it's my turn...

I just can't say enough good regarding Scott Morrow and his business "The Gas Station" at the corner of Hilliard and Madison. I've also heard from others about the great honest work that he and his crew do, so I'm not alone here. You'll see quite a few fleet cars getting service up there, and I think that says a lot. That operation is really efficient and in our experience, they take exemplary care with their customer's automotive needs.

I've felt like trading my 10 year old van off for a number of years now, but Scott keeps talking me out of it. He keeps it running like a well maintained show car.

I was leaving Melt the other night and as I turned away from the curb my tierod broke. I walked to Miller's dropped off the key at 10pm, and told them what I knew, and where the car was. Next morning at 9am Terry called with an estimate, and some ideas on what else should be done, like the other one, sure, take a look at breaks, asked about some other issues I had mentioned earlier in the month and said sure.

At 2pm I picked up the car, and the bill was 15% less than it was quoted, and Ralph and Terry had fixed some other little things that I hadn't even asked about for free!

As long as I have known them, they have been a complete class act, Ralph and his two sons are great guys, and have been around for a long time, and are honest and do things right.

Shameless plug for the secretary at Grant elementary, whose name I am surely about to butcher the spelling if - Ms. Mayshock. She's been a very warm, friendly, and FUNNY face of the school for the years we've been there and I hope we get to keep her through the rest of our children's elementary school years. Also for Mr. Gleikoff (again probably misspelled) for not only NOT hurrying away up some stairs when she saw me coming up the admin building ramp with THAT look on my face on the first day of school, but making time to talk to me there in the hallway about my concerns regarding the 3rd grade classroom (consider this also a shameless plug to go check the thread regarding not closing an elementary school and/or the one I started in the school discussion section )
