Low Water Pressure? Water Main Break On Westside

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

A water main on Rockway and Franklin Blvd. during the night has resulted in low water
pressure, and the need to boil water around the area.

Repairs are underway.

A city worker just came by and explained that it would be 4-6 hours before the break
can be fixed, so that those affected should be prepared for other ways to get water.

They simply do not care about residential, as much as commercial...

Well, that was 4-6 hours to stop the leak...

Followed by 30 days of steel plates, cones, and crappy signage blocking the street.

Image
Only the best for residents.

Twenty-seven days later, two young kids, working as summer interns for an outside contractor
came by with a little steam roller to patch the street. I talked with them for a little while
and they explained that it was a great summer job. They had never done it before but it
was great and they were sure this would get fixed before going back to school.

Next morning.

Image
The edge of the patch is 1/4" to 1/2" and not really very solid, already flaking off so that
when the snow plows hit it in the winter, the hole will open again.

Not to mention they never even cleared and cleaned the surrounding area of loose rumble
and stones so that is ready to come up and the cracks are growing again around the hole.

Image
This is exactly the way it looks two months later.

When did the city offload our street repair to outside businesses that send summer interns
to fix our residential streets.

Could the residents please get the same services as businesses?
Residents pay 59% of the taxes!

Psssssssst, City Hall...

Residents vote, businesses don't!

After 3 months of steel plates, and a terrible patch job Lakewood City Hall responds within hours of it being
posted here on the Deck and stop by and finish the job.

Thank you City Hall for treating residents nearly as good as businesses.

Hold on.
Image
It is "fixed" the same way a kid would hide a broken dish. The safety cones are down, though it is not safe, and
the really bad signs are removed.

Image
No one has even cleaned up the rubble some as big as 5" across, up from the street. The roadway is still breaking
up. The patch is cracking and coming up from the edge, and it is much worse than when they started.

Image
Another job for residents done Lakewood City Hall style!

Pitiful, but I did win nearly $40 from the residents. $20 on two months or more. Double or nothing on it being
done half-assed and not complete.

City Hall, please consider treating residents as well as you treat businesses. Please.

Pitiful.
