Keeping Lakewood Beautiful?

Post by Christina McCallum »

Good Morning!

My husband and I walked to Pet Supplies Plus yesterday morning after enjoying some coffee at the Root. Imagine our disgust upon seeing this at the plaza:

Several people were looking at the cans as we walked by talking about how ridiculous it was. In one conversation we overheard, one person said he planned to call the landlord; I assume he works at one of the nearby stores.

I took these pictures this morning when my husband and I detoured past the plaza to get the shots. There are nine trash cans along the plaza, and 6 of them looked like these. The 3 that had been emptied are in front of Marc's. THANKS, MARC'S!

This coming Saturday, 4/21, is Great American Clean Up Day. People in Lakewood from Keep Lakewood Beautiful and the block clubs are organizing cleaning crews to tidy up parks and neighborhoods. Certainly after winter our yards and neighborhoods can all use a little extra attention. However, a little attention on a regular basis goes a long way.

The accumulated trash has blown all over the plaza parking lot and up and down Warren. It's disgusting. It shows no pride in ownership of the property or commitment to the City and what it means to be part of a community. It does not make me interested in spending money at any of the businesses located there; after all, if an exterior is maintained so poorly, what's an interior like? I suspect there are already many residents who do not shop at those stores because they are put off by the lot and the overflowing trash cans.

I tried yesterday, but failed, to figure out what developer runs that plaza. Any suggestions? I'm happy to make one or several phone calls, write an email etc. This is unacceptable.

Thanks and have a great day!
