Don Hopp retires / Detroit-Marlowe Barber Shop closes

Post by Peter Grossetti »

He started cutting hair at the shop in 1977 ... his father-in-law opened it in 1939.

I wish Don the best in his well-deserved retirement.
I might be wrong, but I think he was cutting hair at the Detroit-Marlowe well before 1977.
Don has been cutting my hair almost exclusively for over 40 years. He's well into his 70's now.

Back in the 60's/early 70's, the elder "Don" shared the barber duties until he passed on.
In those days the shop was located in the storefront of The Highlander/Two Dads Diner.

Don's a great guy. He'll be missed in Lakewood.

@David - I got my info from a Sun News article on cleveland.com. go figure!

Don used to cut my hair back in the late '80s when I was in the Coast Guard. He used to give me a real fine flat-top. I've since out grown that style! :D
