Who is Lakewood's Choice in the GOP Primary?
Which of the four remaining GOP presidential candidates will get the most votes in Lakewood in the March primary?
Ron Paul could benefit from Lakewood's offbeat nature, high percentage of young voters and widespread anti-war sentiment. However, traditional Republicans consider him a Libertarian.
Santorum could benefit from Lakewood's historically strong Catholic presence, and from being from neighboring PA. However, he seems too dogmatic for many local folks.
Romney benefits from appearing the most "normal", not as dogmatic as Santorum or as radical as Paul. However, he just seems so fake and boring.
Unless I'm mistaken, Newt won't do well here. Just too many negatives.

Re: Who is Lakewood's Choice in the GOP Primary?
my choice was romney but since i was confident of his winning ohio i opted for a democratic ballot.
my intense dislike of kucinich instead had me cast a ballot for kaptur.
all in all it turned out to be a win win day for me.

Ironic your choice was Romney, since he is purported to do the same thing you just did, get democratic ballots and vote down people he didn't like.
Although, maybe you should have cast a republican ballot? Romney barely won...

i don't know why this suprises you, OB. the very first conversation i had with you was back in 2004 i believe. i kept getting deliveries of the infancy stages of the Observer on my back porch. i'd read it and get pissed that it appeared that the paper was an express embrace of liberalism with no side of rebuttal. after several cups of coffee, i called LO's offices to ask the LO not to put that crap disguised as newprint on my porch again. you anwsered the phone and calmly and reasonable informed me that this was the people's project and that if i had a counter then would i please submit it.
i did submit something, a defense of conservatism in lakewood. and true to your word, the LO published it.
i was very active on this forum and even had an article published in the LO about christmas. my brother (david boron), my friends and even a neighbor or two - we all jumped in many a conversation on the deck. you never once were snarky even though we, at often times, were. (my original log-in name (kate parker) disappeared, lost access or whatever. still a mystery.)
the gatherings at bella dubby, whenever i'd run into you behind the old cleat's and i'll never forget the time i stumbled into you and ken warren at mahall's..never once did you come off as condescending and you were always willing to hear out all sides.
you've always known me to be right of center. and i've never hid my love of conspiracy theories (the all seeing eye!). so why my previous post in this thread explains so much to you is a mystery to me. the snarkiness of your reply stuns and worries me.

key word..."purported". not "substantiated". not "based in fact". but "purported". the way i see it the key word in your post is "won".
and by the way, how was my choice "ironic"? or was that your way of saying "typical"?

Kate,
He said himself in an interview that he used to cast democratic ballots.
http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2012/02/28/147565335/a-new-low-romney-has-admitted-voting-in-other-partys-primary
So I would argue that he "substantiated" that one all on his own. Unless he's lying.
I do find it strange that in an election that he almost lost his supporters wanted to cast ballots in the democratic election. That seems highly counterintuitive. Perhaps his supporters overestimated his popularity in Ohio?

You have to understand that Congressman Kucinich represented utter failure to the Republicans.
They HAD TO GET RID OF HIM. He was against the illegal war costing us, $4 trillion in debts.
He was responsible for uncovering the Wall Street and Banking nightmare, he was responsible
for breaking up the unfair lending that caused so many to go broke, and he uncovered many
of the evil things corporate farmers are doing to our foods.
The damn guys was nearly always right, but not a republican. They hated him.
I suppose this means they will move on to the next Democrat, that will also be right far more
than anyone they can find to run against them.
When you are married to a party instead of their ideas it gets ugly.

i doubt mitt is lying. and it doesnt suprise me as people on both sides of the political aisle often do the same thing.
my decision the vote for kaptur was literally a last minute one because i was somewhat worried that that nut santorum might just take ohio. but at that last minute i just had a feeling.
thank you for the link on romney. i dont mind being proved wrong and i am always hungry for food for thought. not to mention sometimes my big mouth needs to be checked haha.
as far as kucinich is concerned. my god i cant believe im going to admit this but i voted for him TWICE. but to me he proved to be nothing but a self-serving nutter. maybe he'll fare better elsewhere as he was indeed shopping around long before he was voted out. and im pretty sure he didnt lose because republicans voted for kaptur. she ran a better campaign and had alot of support west of cleveland. she will also get my vote in november because my ballot for her wasnt soley based on my loathing of dennis.
adios dennis dont let the door hit you in the...

Perhaps what you say is true, however, dislike of a potential candidate for the House of Representatives seems like it should be far less important than a potential GOP nominee. Especially in an election process such as this where there is no determined front runner.
This is why politics gets ugly: people react with their gut not their head.

far less important? i guess that depends on where you live and how passionate you are about how your surroundings are represented. one man's trash is another's treasure...
and i further surmise when you are spoonfed your info from the crap that is passed off as media in this country, well then of course you would believe there is no front runner..

gut instincts have served me well over my years. i make no apologies for that.

I don't think it's fair to generalize and say that because we don't agree that I'm spoonfed information.
I agree math may be on Romney's side, but if he keeps losing states like he did in these primaries tonight, I hesitate to call him the clear cut, agreed upon frontrunner.
