Sadly We Have Lost Another

Two Dads shortly after John Kamkutis locked the door for good.

I am sad to report, that Two Dads Diner, has closed for good.

Today was his/their last day, and when they closed at 4pm, they closed it for good.

John Kamkutis and Frank Zingale are two good people, no make that two really good
Lakewoodites, and took a chance on making something happen in Downtown Lakewood.

We can all talk about what happened and why, but I hate seeing people as good as John
and Frank have their dream come to an end.

I spoke with John at City Hall yesterday, with Mayor Mike Summers and Public Service Director
Joe Beno, and we were all shocked and dismayed as John told us the news in the hallway.

I hope they both find something more profitable to do, and thanks for trying.

That is quite surprising and very upsetting. They were a nice little place to have in town. My wife loved to go down and sit at the counter and we took her parents there when they were last in town. Its just too bad...

Hey Chris--

I'm with you. We had many a great breakfast and lunch here. Our favorite deal was the soup and half a sandwich. I brought my mom a couple of times who remembered the Hylander from when my grandma was at the Westerly. My mom was happy to see that the place had new life, and she loved the milkshakes.

I will miss being able to see John, always funny, always kind, always a gentleman-- no matter what (and I'm including his tenure with the school board which can't have been fun.)

I can still taste this. The best blueberry cream pie ever. The cream was really thick and berries fresh. (Don't know if they were made there. If not, I'll try to find out where they came from..)

Thank you John and Frank, for the good food and the memories. We will be looking out for you.

I heard a couple people were in there today, and I spoke with John, who said he might
open for breakfast tomorrow, but that is it.

As for the Blueberry Cream Pie, you can still get them in town, you just have to order
them ahead of time.

Karen Bosworth of Lakewood's own KB Confections, made all of the cakes and pies for Two Dads.

With Two Dads no longer buying her high quality cakes and pies, maybe we should pick up some
of the slack. Her German Chocolate, was to the best I have ever had. And everything else was
just better than perfect. Coconut Cream Pie!

As for Two Dads, it is always tough for me a business person to see any other businessperson
close down on any other terms than their own. When they are as good of people as John and Frank
it is worse.
