Double Armed Robbery In Muni Lot Between Lakeland/Westwood

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

This thread was originally called, Westwood/Lakeland Residents Stay Inside, and the
Lakewood Police had issued a warning to residents.

Two women, walking in the parking lot around 10:00pm were held up at gun point by two
black males thought to be in their 20s, wearing dark baggy clothes. They then took off south
on Westwood, where they tried to break into a house, but the owner scared them off. By
then police had arrived and the two had split up and taken to backyards.

Within 20 minutes, the police had one male in custody, and continued looking through
everyone's backyards with more officers and police dogs. After an hour the search for the
second male was scaled back. The women identified the one man police had in custody as
one of the robbers and he was taken in and booked for armed robbery. Police were still
looking for the second, though I believe the captured robber has started talking with the
police about who he was there with.

The police have caught one of the suspects, the other was seen going south on Lakeland.

The police have shut down the search, though still checking out people of interest.

Very quick response time.

Hey I thought I'd come on here to update. I saw my neighbor who is an officer for the county sheriff's office (who frequently checks in with the Lakewood police) and he said that both suspects were caught, that it was a man and a woman, and that they were using a BB gun. He said "they'd have been in trouble if those girls they jumped had weapons on them--" Which I think means in a gunfight, the person who pulls out the BB gun loses, but I wasn't really wanting to picture any of this going on at all. In terms of the ladies whipping glocks or whatever out of their purses and they head to their cars. But my neighbor's point I guess is that they could have, especially if they had had permits.

He said the women who were robbed got their stuff back and both suspects were caught quickly. I have to say I was relieved to hear that it was a BB gun, and I have to say the more we talk about how great the Lakewood police are, the more I hope potential criminals hear about it, and as Jim pointed out in the "It's Everywhere" thread, keep on moving to someplace that's not as proactive on crime as Lakewood is.

(Not implying that the people reading this Deck are potential criminals or anything. I'm just saying, "Celebrate our wonderful police." I know we always laugh when so many of them show up for something that seems small, but it's a whole different feeling when it isn't, or maybe it isn't, and you can see that they are making sure that everything is covered.)
