Voter Suppression!

Post by stephen davis »

I went to my polling place to vote today. I was not on the voter list. I was referred to a table where I was informed that I am deceased.

When's the last time that you checked your pulse?

I spoke with you today on the phone several times, and you seemed OK to me then.

At least, I THINK it was you...

Back to the banjo... :D

I hope you voted anyway. You wouldn't be the first deceased person that voted the party line.

After the poll worker informed me of my demise, I said, "So, this is what hell is like."

So you couldn't vote at all, or were you given some kind of provisional ballot?

I wonder how many people this kind of thing affects?

They let me use a provisional ballot. Oddly, my ballot had to be put in a little box on the floor next to the ballot reader. I was not allowed to use the ballot reader. I asked if that little box was the vote morgue.

I've been on the phone a few times today with the Board of Elections. They still haven't figured anything out, except for the fact that I died sometime in the past year. They know that I voted last November, but subsequent details are sketchy.

Mark Twain said it first, but I've been able to co-opt it, "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."

Well, here's an update. The Board of Elections says that I died March, 23rd, but that my registration has been reinstated, so in that great Cuyahoga County tradition, my provisional ballot will be counted along with all of the other deceased voters.

Awesome!

Glad to put that to rest. Eternal rest!

Carpe diem.

Wow.

How many times in our lives do we get to bear witness to a resurrection?

He died, and yet, lives again?

Sorry Stephen, nice try, but this story has been done before. :D

Back to church, er, the banjo!
