Mayor Summers will explain Lakewood's new plan to evaluate and upgrade our housing stock. The plan includes a "sidewalk evaluation" of EVERY home in Lakewood. The effort is already underway and has been completed in Wards two and three. The progarm will be implemented in 2012. Hilary Schickler from Lakewood Alive will follow and explain what Lakewood Alive can do for our residents.

Matt
Thanks for the heads up. For those that are not Block Captains we have a great article in the Lakewood Observer about what what she can do for this winter.
Is there going to be any conversation about the city sending out ads for select people
running for office also being sent around by the city of Lakewood to block captains to give
their neighbors?
It just seemed odd, are they backing that one candidate and leaving the others out cold?
Was it an ad? What do the others feel about it?
Just curious.

Is there a native English speaker available who can translate what Jim said?
Thanks.
Thanks.

DL,
I am a native English speaker, as well as a Block Captain, so I will take a stab at translating Jim's missive.

I think Jim is referring to his article in the recent edition of The Lakewood Observer wherein he explains Hilary Schickler’s good works. See http://lakewoodobserver.com/read/2011/11/01/housing-what-lakewood-is-all-about.

I think Jim is referring to the fact that City Hall appears to have “assigned” the duties of its Neighborhood Block Club Program to LakewoodAlive and DowntowN.
The mission statement of the Neighborhood Block Club Program is to:
Mission Statement
Lakewood Neighborhood Block Club is a resident-driven program that helps neighbors work together and work with police and other City departments to ensure safety and security for each person in our community ***.
http://onelakewood.com/PublicSafety/Police/BlockClub
While LakewoodPatch has a very good online catalogue of crime in Lakewood, City Hall sends Block Captains numerous “feel good” email blasts from the LakewoodPatch that have nothing to do with the mission statement of the Lakewood Neighborhood Block Club – i.e., “help[ing] neighbors work together and work with police and other City departments to ensure safety and security for each person in our community (emphasis added).” Rather, these news blasts tend to be related solely on LakewoodAlive and DowntowN events, and they also contain advertisements – political and otherwise.
I can certainly see how a 501(c)(3) can assist the Lakewood Neighborhood Block Club in its mission statement (see above). And I can also see how a reader of these email blasts from City Hall would believe that there is a direct relationship between the City of Lakewood and LakewoodPatch, not to mention LakewoodAlive and DowntowN.
It could also just be Jim using the following as a metaphor for City Hall …
