More Fast Work--- Lakewood Police

Post by Stan Austin »

At about 2:07 PM LPD received a call from Cleveland Police informing them of a kidnapping at W.114 and Clifton. A witness was following a red Ford van into Lakewood on Clifton. A Lakewood Police unit was flagged down at Beach and Clifton by the witness. That unit and a second LPD unit followed the suspect van back into Cleveland in a hot pursuit. All police units met up at W.114 and Clifton where Cleveland Police took over the situation and Lakewood units returned back into our City.
Pretty quick cooperation between Cleveland and Lakewood dispatchers and good double teaming between the responding officers and departments.
All told, suspect was on the ground about 4 minutes later.

Stan I am glad you brought this up. I had a very similar experience last week and wasn't sure where to post it.

I was driving home from Westlake at about 9pm and this car almost ran me off the road on I-90. I slowed down and then observed as this driver was swerving in and out of the lines and speeding up and slowing down. I called the Lakewood Police knowing that we were approaching the city limits pretty quickly. I first spoke with the dispatcher near the Detroit exit of I-90 in Rocky River. I gave her the cars description and license plate number and explained what was going on and kept her informed of his location. Police cars were dispatched to Warren and to Bunts. We passed Warren before the police arrived but the bunts pair pulled out and stopped the car. I later found out from another officer the driver was charged with a DUI.

I was extremely impressed with the teamwork between the dispatcher and the officers and the speed at which they got things done. It doesn't take long to get from Detroit Rd exit to Bunts and they did a great job getting this dangerous driver off the road.

Thank you Lakewood Police Department!

Suspect being put on the ground.

Being told, "Face Down, Hand Out!" "Face Down, Hand Out!" "Face Down, Hand Out!"

Talking with him while they go through the car.

It was a pretty big chase.

Nice work Lakewood and Cleveland Police Departments.
