It Is With Great Sadness... We Lose Bryan Schwegler

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Bryan from his facebook page.

It was brought to my attention this morning that longtime Lakewood resident, Observer
poster as well in many other Lakewood sites, and tremendous human Bryan Schwegler
has passed away suddenly from a brain hemorrhage.

I always loved reading his posts seeing his images, and running into him all over northern
Ohio. He was involved in computers and technology and was always 10 steps ahead of
everyone else in what was coming.

To his partner Adam, and his friends and family, I am truly sorry, my prayers and love go
to you and Bryan. The world lost a truly amazing human.

I am stunned, shocked and so saddened by this loss. We were (and forever will be) enriched by Bryan's participation in our lives.
My sympathies, too, to his partner and family.

This is just shocking. Bryan was a great guy, a great conversationalist, a very kind individual. Peace and blessings to his partner, family and friends.

I know Bryan mostly from the Deck (We waved at each other in the Root as people who more often talked to each other from behind our screens.)-- When I saw his name pop up on here I was always eager to see what he had written-- his opinions were informed, compassionate, funny, and brought perspective to the discussion. It is so shocking to speak of him in past tense. I will miss him so much here, which I know was one of many places he reached out and connected people, and helped things make sense, and helped things be better.

Sending prayers for his loved ones, and gratitude to them for sharing him.

Word cannot adequately express my sympathy for Bryan's friends and family.

I really enjoyed debating different points of view with Bryan here on the 'Deck.

If you wanted to debate Bryan, you'd better have done your homework.

Bryan brought a sublime dignity and depth of intellectual discussion to this forum that will always be remembered.

He set a very high bar of qualitative discourse for the rest of us to follow.

Farewell my friend.

I'll be playing a song for you...

I don't even know how to respond to this. I just wandered on to read Lakewood news and never in a million years would have expected to read this. I feel sick and heartbroken. In shock. It has been awhile since I blogged with Bryan, sometimes on the same side of issues and sometimes not. He reached out a couple years ago to meet me in person over coffee to put a face to the writing. I found him inspiring and intelligent and just a wonderful human being. A wonderful contribution to Lakewood and someone who defied a lot of bias in his life for something that matters not in life.

It feels so unfair to the world and our community to lose him. The best way to honor Bryan is to fight for equality, for the rights of every human regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation. To take same-sex marriage OFF the list of reasons to decide on a politician, quit judging others, and focus on equality, human rights and peace in our world.

One more angel in heaven and a tragic loss to earth.

I'm gobsmacked by this news. I came home from the hospital to learn of Bryan's passing.

He was a vibrant, sassy, informed and fearless voice for Lakewood and the LGBT community here. We usually advocated for the same issues and sometimes we went at it full force. No matter how we interacted, Bryan was always articulate and firm on his stance.

I wish him a safe journey and I hear there is a rock-n-roll heaven and they have a hell of band.

Such a great loss for Lakewood. My heart, too, goes out to all of Brian's family and loved ones.
