Heroin Off The Street - Great Work LPD!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Last Friday (8.15.2011) Lt. Gary Sprague was out in the new Lakewood Police DARE Camaro, when
a woman driving a burgundy two door sedan cut him off in traffic. So Lt. Sprague turned
on the lights and pulled the car over to speak with the driver.

Image
As he went back to his car to wait for back-up and get results back from the check,
a male got out of the right side of the woman's car and ran north on Cranford Av. where
he was seen going over the fence towards Brockley Ave. Lt Sprague gave chase, then
doubled back to his car, and called for a grid to be formed to find the suspect.

Within minutes the grid was formed, and by talking with people in the homes and on the
street the police, narrowed the search to a few homes, and sent for Shep the police dog.

Image
As they walked down the first driveway, Shep seemed nervous then suddenly
someone shouted, "He is in the bushes!"

Image
A police officer closed the width of the driveway, grabbing the suspect and putting him
face down onto the concrete.

Quickly the suspect was cuffed.

Image
As the suspect was being read his rights, someone mentioned he had a black bag as
he ran from the car. So the police went back and checked the yard and found...

Image
A black bag with 240 packets of Heroin.

Image
Back on Detroit, Shep goes through the car.

The woman driving was charged with trafficking, and child endangerment (her child was in the car)
and the male was charged with possession of heroin with intent to sell, and obstruction of justice.

It was amazing to watch it all happen, the police, doing their things and residents doing
their thing, and keeping a watch on their neighborhood.

Nice work Lakewood LPD!

Wow. Nice work. Do we know if these upstanding citizens were local to Lakewood? Is there a heroin problem in Lakewood?

What a shame Shep's leash didn't "accidentally give way" that afternoon...

I did not even notice that! Must have been some effort to hold him back!

I believe they were.

Jim

It is my understanding that there is a heroin problem everywhere. In Cleveland, the inner rings, and certainly
in the burbs where idle cash and time, give way to ....

Since we have begun our war on Drugs, and on Afghanistan, Heroin prices are at an all time low, and
I hear availability is at an all time high. This is where economics, and cool, meet death head on.

FWIW

Not sure they have it anymore, that story was from 2011.

Popped up on facebook FBers were excited about the recent big bust.

Lakewood Police are damn good, no matter what year, we all know that.

Great work by our police. Sadly, this is not a rare occurrence in Lakewood. We are one of the top cities for heroin trafficking, over doses and even deaths. A young man a couple of doors down from me was found dead on the couch of an over dose. Someone else experienced the same outcome on Robin. If you drive down Madison Avenue between Bunts and Waterbury, there are deals being made all the time. I am not sure if this is related to the three gangs that are here in Lakewood or not. This is their stomping grounds.

It appears that about two or three months ago, Summers quit posting police reports, deaths, etc. that have anything to do with drug activity. I believe he wants to keep it hidden from the citizens of Lakewood so it doesn't ruin the Lakewood "Brand". Mr. Summers, we have a problem here, a bad problem here. We need to work together as a community to help those in need in hopes to alleviate the problem. Mr. Summers, ignoring the problem and keeping it hidden from your citizens does not help and will not make the problem go away on its own.

Not sure we are one of the top cities, but it is bad everywhere and needs to be fixed.

As for the stats, it is an election year. He is not worried about the brand, god knows I wish it was, it is an election year.

Jim,
Trust me, it is bad here! Perhaps I should have said the number one suburb.

Lori, a relative of mine ,who lives in Lakewood, died of heroin overdose a couple of weeks ago. Sounds like this is the same person that lives by you. The police were able to get the dealer. They asked the girlfriend to call the dealer back and ask for more stuff. Guy showed back up at the house and they arrested him. Sounds like they will be charging the dealer with manslaughter. Dealer was not from Lakewood. I heard he was from the east side. Not sure which city.

Huge problem everywhere, not just Lakewood.

Patrick, I am sorry for your loss. My son is studying Criminology and the class has been doing a research project on Heroin and the Suburbs. Lakewood is one of the worst suburbs! When you have a mayor that hides the crimes from his citizens and refuses to deal with them, the problems escalate. It appears he can't even deal with the three gangs we have here in Lakewood now, and he certainly has not done anything about the graffiti. As I have said before, I believe Summers has Failed.
