The Worst School Board Ever?

Post by Bill Call »

How do you measure the performance of a school board?

What aspects of school performance can be attributed to teachers, to students, to parents, to administrators and to board members?

Does a school board make a difference?

The short answer is yes. How does this board measure up?

Preiminary results show that Lakewood Schools have achieved an Effective rating for the 2010-2011 school year and that Lakewood Schools perform better than most of its peers. B+

The Board used State funding for new Lakewood Schools to its full advantage. They also timed the bond issues so that the new bond issue took effect as an older construction bond was retired. While there was a lot of disagreement regrading the proposed closure of Grant on balance the board behaved in a highly professional and effective manner. A-

The Board has used buyouts and early retirements to cushion the affects of increased labor and benefit costs. I think they kicked the can down the road a bit but they kept the peace and preserved the quality of system. B-

Overall I think we have been blessed with a successful Board for the last four years. We should thank them all for a job well done.
