LOBC Packs The House!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Lakewood Outdoor Basketball Committee asked a couple friends to stop by to speak at
Lakewood City Council, and they packed the house!

Image
LO reporter Mike Deneen takes to the podium for a show of hands of who was there for LOBC.
Everyone, raised their hand. Then he asked who there celebrates diversity, and the hands stayed raised!

Image
Then a resident from Lakeland Ave. spoke of how much he loves Kaufamn Park, and enjoys walking up for a quick game of hoops. He went on to say it was one of the reasons he moved here.

Image
Mayor Summers speaks of his dedication to more hoops with the next being at Lakewood Park

Image
Council President Mary Louise Madigan listens as Councilman Brian Powers speaks of how everyone
is for outfdoor basketabll in Lakewood. "Even those complaining see the need for hoops."

Image
Manny Mahone, court supervisor and mentor speaks of his love of Lakewood, and the game.

It was great to see so many supporters, it was also nice to hear that Lakewood City
Council and our Mayor are so dedicated to keep Hoops up and continue to build and
provide more courts around the city of Lakewood.

What a great night for Living Well and Healthy in Lakewood.

Great work LOBC, and City Hall.

Jim,

LOBC would be no where without the support of the Lakewood Observer. LOBC grew out of the Observer project and we want to thank you and all those dedicated to the LO for your support. We would especially like to thank those that came out this evening to support our push to add a Lakewood Park location. We also want to thank school board members Matt Markling and Ed Favre for facilitating and ultimately passing the open gym plan that we had been pushing for. This gives Lakewood kids 3 nights a week of open gym time. Overall, a great night for Lakewood!

Two quick points:

1. As evidenced by the "we all are in favor of outdoor basketball statement" from council. One might ask, if there are 35-50 kids playing basketball each evening at the neighborhood court, why wouldn't you expand it to other parts of the city?

2. Big shout out to Mayor Mike Summers for standing up for Lakewood's kids at the last council meeting. Mike has always been passionate about helping out Lakewood's youth. He frequents the Kauffman courts and has really gotten to know a lot of our kids.

I also hear that the Mayor has a wicked Hook Shot (but can't go to his left).

The Mayor is a Democrat, yes? So what do you mean he can't go to his left??!!??!

I look forward to whatever I can do to ensure LOBC's success!
