At 5:30 pm LEAF Community was back in front of Lakewood Library, a sure sign of the
summer coming and harvest season to follow.

The Mars Avenue side was a treasure trove of handmade items and organic food.

Behind the main table was Carol Hunt, one of the greenest women I know and Shawna Hoffstetter, working on her green.

But my favorite was the Organic Lemonade stand being attended to by Hazel, Gabriel,
Julie and Friend! 3 cups of cool, sweet delciiousness!

Quote of the night
Mark and Carol a couple I know because Carol worked in Beechwood with a friend, and
lives out in North Ridgeville now, appeared on the Library porch. I walked up asked how
they were doing since retiring, and after small talk I asked, "What brings you to Lakewood?"
Their answer, "We always come to Lakewood for our fresh vegetables on Wednesday night."
If anyone ever doubts the effectiveness of community farms, and CSA efforts like LEAF,
think about it. People from the farmland coming here to buy fresh vegetables, 13 miles
to buy their share, socialize, and hang out.

To everyone involved with LEAF from day 1, standing ovation.

Can't wait until next Wednesday, 5 - 7:30 Lakewood Public Library.

Be there or be square.

As I was standing at the education table at Spring Fest tonight and helping a 12 year old (or so) boy plant vegetable seeds, a friend of his walked over (skateboard in hand). He asked the boy at the table, "Hey what are you doing?!" (with that touch of "I bet it's really lame" in his voice as only pre-teens can do). "Planting vegetable seeds," he replied. Then, I heard my favorite quote of the night- "Oh, that's cool man," said the friend! Both boys walked away with planted seeds.

That's right planting vegetables is "cool." Many thanks to all who turned out for the first LEAF Night of the year and as for everyone else, there are 20 more weeks in the growing season to come see why vegetables are so "cool" out in front of the Lakewood Library.

That's awesome, and only partially because it means I'm cool too.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
