So What Is The Lakewood Brand?

I brought this up in another thread. This is a topic that has been hotly debated here for
almost 7 years. Many people who completely misunderstood the Lakewood Observer Project
in the early years were put off by some of the members conversation about "Building the
Brand" and that we had neither the right nor the ability to build the brand.

Of course the truth was very different. The Lakewood Observer was about giving people a
place and a voice to help define, and then yes amplify or build that brand. Oh the horror!
One seat at the table for each voice. Ownership of ideas and words.

So what is the Lakewood Brand that has emerged? Should the city, civic groups, and all
use that brand to attract like minded people and businesses to cater to them?

If we really are to believe the hype from outside, and I do believe some of it what are we,
and what are we looking and needing to attract? Who live here, and who are we looking to
get to move in? Are we looking to change the brand, and maybe set off in a new direction?
Instead of capitalizing on the cool brand, do we cater to...?

If the city is as good as they say, and I believe it is. It is time for us to have more control
on what is going on in this city. We should not have to be a victim of taking anything.

So what is the brand?

Here is my answer: I don't have a clue.

I do know,for our family, that Lakewood has been and continues to be a very liveable city.

I will say, as I travel around our city, that I get good vibes of "Americana" as I absorb all that surrounds me.

No doubt, Lakewood will continue to evolve.

Liveable is good. Years ago Mel Page was pushing Liveable instead of walkable. I agreed
with her reasoning at the time and still do.

It certainly is attracting a lot of young people, as Bill Call noted.
