Wind Damage Severe In Lakewood

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Around 5am the roof blew off the Commodore Club Apartments landing on about
ten cars in the parking lot and on the street. As I walk up the street I hear, "Stop!"

Image
It was Fire Chief Scott Gillman telling me that there were live wires down, in fact
all over the city!

Image
Using a long exposure you can see the power was off on the entire west side of Lakewood
at 5am. I could also hear Around The Corner's alarm going off. Knowing at the same time
a transformer was on fire in front of Mickey Krivosh's house. Mickey is the owner of ATC
and now Three Birds on the other side of the street.

In early morning light one of many trees through houses and/or cars in Lakewood.

Image
Showing just how dark it still was, a fireman starts chopping up the tree.

Image
With a long exposure you can see the damage.

Another tree down over a car into a house.

Still before sunrise, though it is lighter, I ran into School Board President Matthew Markling
surveying Lincoln and other schools for damage and safety. He remarked that, "The couple
hundred pound branch from a city tree could have killed kids." then noticed the hanging
wires. After a quick call to police and fire, he decided it was foolish to have kids out in this
dangerous weather. Good call as there were at least 10 live wires down I knew of.

More photos to follow, check back.

Felt our house shaking this morning. Kinda glad we now have no trees in our backyard anymore. If a tree falls in Lakewood, I just assume Jim already has photos up on the forum :)

It's a good thing we have no trees in our yard, I guess.
