Celebrate Lakewood's Centennial, Thursday, Feb. 17th, 7:30

Post by Christopher Bindel »

As some of you might know, this year Lakewood is celebrating its centennial as an incorporated city. Although there are a number of things planed to celebrate this occasion throughout the year, I was disappointed that none of Lakewood’s local groups had decided to celebrate the actual date of incorporation. In fact until last Monday, at the council meeting, I did not even know that the actual date of Lakewood’s incorporation is February 17th, as in this Thursday.

Disappointed in this fact as I was, I was not going to let it pass without any celebration. Therefore, with the help of Julie and our friends over at root Café, there will be is going to be a Centennial Birthday Party to be had, with cake and party hats and all. I hope you all can join me, Mayor Summers and other members of the community as we get together to celebrate 100 years of Lakewood. The Lakewood Historical Society will have slides of historic Lakewood projected and there will be some acoustic music from local musicians.

Hope to see you there.

I think having a celebration on the birthday is a nice idea. The only other celebration I know as of now is scheduled in April. Hopefully, there will be more to come! I am re-posting the information here. Originally, I posted this in the Lakewood Family Collaborative section.

Lakewood Chamber of Commerce Celebrates 100 Years
of Serving the Business Community

The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce turns 100 Years old in 2011. To celebrate this important milestone, the Chamber will be hosting The Centennial Gala, to be held on April 9, 2011 at The Beck Center for the Arts. In partnership with The Lakewood Historical Society, the theme of the event is "100 Years of Business in Lakewood". Do you or does your family run a business in Lakewood? Do you have fond memories of businesses that have been around for many years – even ones that may no longer exist? Do you have a favorite new business that you hope will be around for the next 100 years?

Help the Chamber tell the history of business in Lakewood. The Chamber will be writing articles for the local papers, posting stories on FaceBook and on the Chamber website, and producing a video for the Gala that celebrates 100 years of business in the Lakewood community. If you have a great story to tell, contact the Chamber at info@lakewoodchamber.org or call 216-226-2900.

Happy Birthday Lakewood

This is a map of Lakewood from the LO archives is as it was in 1885. Whenever you look at
your deed and see a name that makes no sense, it goes back to these original land owners
and plot lines.

Happy Birthday Lakewood.
