Study Concludes Merged Fire Departments Would Save Little

Post by Bill Call »

The Study has concluded that merging the seven districts would only save about 1.2%.

I could have saved them all that time and money and told them that before they had their first meeting. The chance for real savings ended the minute the Cities ruled out changes in work rules, pay and benefits. When the various unions were invited to participate all hope was lost for ANY savings.

Virtually all the expenses of local governments are for pay and benefits. You can't increase those costs 6% per year, year in and year out, year after year and expect to balance the budget by bulk buying toilet paper and counting paper clips.

To some that seems a radical idea.

Bill

We both know that regionalism is merely snake oil that only makes sense to those that are
PAID to push it down our throats, and/or by politicians that hope it makes them look like
they are doing something while looking down the road, when they are more scared than sane.

Makes as much sense as cutting taxes to pay down the debt.
