Applications are still being accepted until Tuesday, November 9th for both Mayor and one Council-At-Large seat. Councilman Butler shared his report to council regarding the application process with the paper several issues ago and can be found here http://lakewoodobserver.com/read/6/18/l ... -landscape (again, the only change is the extension of the deadline from October 1st until November 9th, as referenced above).

I think you need to highlight the fact that you're a long time Lakewood resident who isn't just interested in climbing the political ladder...
Vote for the candidate that's going nowhere : Jim O'Bryan for Mayor.

Jerry for Mayor - hats for everyone! I think all candidates in politics should use the picture that makes them look the least sane.

Are you serious about this? I think you should be.
Please let us know, because if you are, there's a lot to do.

Betsy
Yes I am serious about this.
It pained me when I read no one was interested. So I sat down and thought if I
could do it, and as you know I have taken steps to hand all of my businesses over
to others to run, including the Lakewood Observer.
I have also spoken with retired mayors, and other people at City Hall that thought
it would be a good idea to jump in.
This city for all of it pluses, could do much better. For all of the cool/best we have gotten
in the past two years none, came from the work of city hall, or local CDC/EDCs all
came from the hard work of people, residents that saw a vision and did it. Many if
not all complained about other groups and city hall not being helpful to their ideas and
or business needs. This needs to change.
Two weeks ago I was speaking with a business in the Downtown footprint that was
working to being a much needed store to downtown Lakewood, and found out that
no one from "Downtown" or other groups would even give them a letter to help bring
this much needed business to downtown Lakewood. A business that had for decades
been in downtown Lakewood! That is crazy.
If there is a plan for Lakewood, for the businesses, for the districts for the neighborhoods
then it is time to show it to the citizens. This is true for City Hall, and those that seek
to plan and play "sim city" with Lakewood. It is time for transparency, and accountability
to be the norm, not the exception.
We need to concentrate on safety and housing. We need to fix up the entry points to
Lakewood. We need to keep Downtown clean, and free of graffiti, and we have to do it
with no more money than we have now. Actually we need to find another $4 million,
I would say $6, and look at ways to raise revenues for the city, and I think I have ideas.
I have spoken with Rs, Ds, and Is. All seem willing to work with me. I have spoken with
many of the politicians that cover Lakewood and have a great relationship with all. As a
person that has more than one residential property and 3 businesses in Lakewood I can
understand the needs of my fellow businesses and residents far better than anyone
currently on council, and of those that had applied originally. I have a good relationship
with fire, police, and other groups in the city.
I am aligned with no one, and would go into this very open minded, and will always
look far into the future, with a good grasp of the past, and where we are now. I am
willing to bet I have more miles and hours walking this city, dealing with issues, and
helping others move here, start businesses here than anyone else in this city. And in the
end, is that not what this is all about?
