Lakewood Police get some new tech.
What is with the new (to me) radar / camera looking things mounted on the trunk of some police cars? I have always been driving so unable to take a picture. But If you look at the top of the trunk they are just there plain as day.
I wonder if it is that thing where they troll the streets taking pictures of licenses plates and running them for violations automatically?
Interesting...

Re: Lakewood Police get some new tech.

Lakewood police's new license plate recognition hardware.
Bought with the same stimulus/homeland security funds that are paying for the new
"signs and lights" on Clifton Blvd. Of course we have learned that those cameras that
were paid for with homeland security money are only there for excessive idling!
Move along, nothing to see here.

PD wrote:Police in five Northeast Ohio counties will soon have surveillance equipment that can scan thousands of license plates in minutes, alerting officers to vehicles linked to crimes and unpaid fines.
By the end of August, 42 fixed and mobile units will be deployed in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties. The total cost to buy and install the equipment is $580,260. It was paid for primarily with federal stimulus and Homeland Security money and an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
The company providing the systems is Elsag North America of Brewster, N.Y.
That’s over $13,800 per camera in just five NEO counties. Imagine if even a quarter of the counties across the US get these.
Note to self: buy stock in the parent companies of Elsag North America.

Hi,
A friend just got snagged by this new device. She was at the YMCA parking lot and Lakewood's finest took time out of their busy schedule to give her a ticket for her car tags being expired. The plate tags say Oct. and her birthdate was last week. But you would think they could wait until the month past. Two cars were used for this. So, a word to the wise, don't count on the week or 2 time for the month to pass to get those plates updated.
Happy Birthday and welcome to Lakewood!
