Good Neighbors Light The Night!

So I have two police that refuse to go on the record for fear of losing their jobs.

The problem is with me, Bill Call, and many, many others that post here. We get information from sources that do not want to be quoted. The other day at the Police stand-off, if that is the correct term, one of my friends on the force said, "I cannot say anything to you, the Chief would have my hide." This is very typical in cities and on police forces. The Chief or Mayor wants, no feels the need, to control the flow of information for spin sake. This is what the country has become. Again the other day I asked a parking policeman if I could take a photo of the new ticket devices. He said, "I have gotten in enough trouble over you,["] turned and covered it up while we spoke.[]

I suppose police reports are public records; however, I can certainly appreciate the fear of retaliation. Sadly, I recently witnessed one high profile public employee at a public event plead with Jim to not publish photos of that individual standing next to various individuals for fear that he/she would lose his/her job.

What do I report or say that would have made you happy?

Give me a hint?

How about SECURITY watch the neighborhood, turn your lights on and report suspicious
behavior. No wink, wink, no nod.

Now maybe you should direct your beliefs to the people that are running your city in
backroom deals, with absolute silence towards you and every other tax payer. The ones
changing your city with your money to be a new mall, county prison etc.? Or am I the only
one to get the lecture? Why not call the police chief and ask where is the official warning?

In the end, Jim, perhaps you should just put everything you know out on the table. Just the facts.

We have a Block Club Meeting in the auditorium at the main library on September 15th from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Councilmen Bullock and Summers might be in attendance. Everyone raises some good points throughout this thread which I hope they will both address.

Hey fellow Lakewoodites, especially those in the Scenic Park District, Clifton Park, North of the WSL, on both sides of Lakewood Park and my neighbors in the Emerald Park Historic District.

Let's light the night by leaving porch lights and back patio lights on. Maybe even a inside
light or two.

In a show of contentment, cool, good neighborly fun, and SECURITY!

Right now dogs would help make good neighbors too!

I logged off the other day before I had a chance to thank you for clarifying this topic. I do appreciate clear communication. Even if information is not "official" or as complete as it could be, facts are always welcome.

It seems that in any organization or community, good communication is always one of the most difficult aspects. I think education is more important than ever, now that we have so many communication vehicles. People still need basic literacy skills, along with training to be able to engage in civil discussion.

I do appreciate the deck for the local news it provides; it's where I go when I want to find out what is happening in Lakewood. Often the "truth" of any situation can only come from listening to a variety of sources.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, and the more involvement from all the better.
The more I thought about this thread the more it made me smile, every part of this thread
is gold, and a great moment to learn about including the protection of our property, and
how we handle this in the future.

The Deck was designed just for this. The levels of complexity is hard for many, and
unnerving to others. That is not a bad thing, as a person looks back and looks at the
dialogue, the discussion, and where it has gone. It is good.

I still maintain, that my original post is hard to confuse. Be safe, keep your eyes open,
report strange things.

But I also think everyone that has taken part in this discussion has added to it, and this
project. While helping all of us to understand all of us a little bit better. For that I am thankful.

This project grew out of a need for residents to talk about many things they are unclear
about, or need to tell others. It came after a couple years of a city filled with half truths
because of a government at the time that was not being forthcoming with the citizens. Out
of the cloud of misinformation were many real truths, and much fiction. But when they
collectively saw the light of day, residenmt were able to make sense for themselves what
worked for them.

Again a good thing.
