I would like to congratulate Mark Gleichauf on his May 17, 2010 appointment by the Lakewood City School District Board of Education to the position of Director of Teaching and Learning K-12 position. Mr. Gleichauf’s teaching and administrative experiences and his proven track record during his time with Lakewood Schools have prepared him well for this position. Mr. Gleichauf’s experience speaks for itself.
I would also like to congratulate Roxann Ramsey on her May 17, 2010 appointment by the Lakewood City School District Board of Education to the Principal of Grant Elementary School position. After meeting with the Superintendent and subsequently reviewing her background, I believe that Ms. Ramsey is qualified for this position.
Ms. Ramsey has had two years of administrative experience as an Assistant Middle School Principal and four years of experience as a Middle School and High School Student Activities Director. This past year, she has served as Coordinator of Teaching and Learning for the Lakewood City Schools. Ms. Ramsey trained administrators in the MCREL walkthrough protocol. She has been a key part of the Ohio School Improvement process for Lakewood Schools. Ms. Ramsey supervised the writing accountability program at the elementary level. She revised the Lakewood program for Ohio Diagnostics Assessment to comply with state requirements. Ms. Ramsey supervised Lakewood’s Academic Coaches. She supervised Lakewood’s Kindergarten Readiness Assessment in all elementary schools. Ms. Ramsey worked with Mr. Gleichauf to institute and supervised the Supplemental Educational Services program that was required by Grant’s School Improvement status. She has completed 22 credit hours toward a Doctor of Philosophy in Education degree. Ms. Ramsey holds a Superintendent’s license.
Congratulations to Mark Gleichauf and Roxann Ramsey

At its meeting on May 17, the Board of Education approved a number of personnel moves, including some changes in administrative positions as the district plans for the 2010-2011 school year.
Grant Elementary Principal Mark Gleichauf has been named the district’s new K-12 Director of Teaching & Learning. His position will replace that of Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Jan Soeder, who will be retiring in July after 26 years with the district. Roxann Ramsey, the district’s current Coordinator of Teaching & Learning, will replace Gleichauf as Grant’s principal.
Gleichauf has been Grant’s principal for the last eight years and led the school to an Excellent rating by the State of Ohio in 2009. Grant was also named a U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School under Gleichauf’s guidance. Before coming to Grant, he was a principal in the Wellington and Brooklyn school districts. He has a Master’s degree in Education Administration and has served on a number of districtwide committees and been actively involved in the district’s Ohio School Improvement Process efforts.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to advance my career in this district,” said Gleichauf, who also said it will be tough to leave the Grant students and families after building relationships over the last eight years.
For Ramsey, the move is a return to managing a school after her role as teaching and learning coordinator for the district. Before coming to Lakewood City Schools last year, she was an assistant principal for Beachwood Middle School. Prior to that, she was the advisory and activities administrator for Beachwood middle and high schools as well as an English teacher at the high school. She recently earned her superintendent certification and is currently a dissertation short of earning her doctorate.
One of her strengths is using technology to enhance students’ educational experience. As the district’s teaching and learning coordinator, she taught a series of classes for district administrators on the use of technology tools.
“I look forward to being part of the Grant community. I know it will be an amazing experience,” said Ramsey.
Other administrative personnel moves include returning Gerald Lanning, the district’s current coordinator for teaching and learning for secondary education, back to Lakewood High School as a house principal. Lanning, who was formerly the assistant principal at LHS where he earned state Assistant Principal of the Year honors, will replace Sandra Donnelly, who will be retiring after 35 years.
Also, Coordinator of Gifted/Talent Development and District Assessment, Rod Lake, will move to Garfield Middle School as assistant principal. He will replace Catherine White, who has resigned.
