New business, word on the street

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

A new salon is moving into the old Futon Place next to the Root Cafe. Owners of the
salon reached a deal with the landlords a couple days ago, and were walking around
checking out their new space yesterday. Sounds like they are going to invest in the space.
Happy to be in Lakewood.

However, Weber's Custard that was moving into the old Phoenix spot has completely given
up trying to deal with the landlord, and has decided to move on to possibly a spot on
Hillard, or Warren Road. He remains dedicated to bringing this Weber's "back" to
Lakewood though it was never actually in Lakewood, it was in walking distance in Rocky
River. It was across the street from Joe's Delicatessen when it was a Kenny Kings before
I-90 forced the move to Lorain Road just west of He grew up here on Wagar and would
love to come back. Would have been nice downtown, as it is a destination spot for many
from out of town, and often appears in the "Best of" columns over the past 50 years.

Sorry, I just heard that Weber's may be coming to town and I dropped eveything.

Its too bad about Weber's. Since Phoenix moved I thought that place would have been perfect for an ice cream spot. Also when I was working in Faiview he would come in every once in a while and bring us some custard. He's a really nice guy. Well maybe Rozoti's will contemplate coming back to Lakewood in that spot or something.

Christopher

I think the old Phoneix might not have worked it is a destination. People for over 50 years
have been going to Weber's and it is cult following stuff.

They are coming to Lakewood, the question is just where.

I still miss the gelato place that was in the Marc's plaza a few years ago!

Or are you speaking of MooTown Creamery which started the rumba line of ice cream places
through Marc's Plaza. Weber's is one of the few that can give Honey Hut, and Mr. Sandy's
a real run for the money in taste, consistency and historical significance.

But the good news is another food place moving to Lakewood as well. I spoke with a couple
at Rutabaga Nights that is looking for 1,400' to move another food place into Lakewood.
Their product is very good, and will be a nice fit.

Wow a year ago we had a bunch of standards barely getting by in this economy, and now
we have twice as many. Favorites seem to be home grown.
