Dim-witted thugs looking out for the interests of the rich instead of programs that would actually help them, it's hard to have much sympathy for them.

I would ask, how do you define rich? Granted I know nothing about you, Jerry, but would the poor would consider you rich? Perhaps those "dim-witted thugs" are looking out for your interests...

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Oh, please Roy, I hardly think the rich warrant being classified as victims of discrimination.

That's actually mighty thoughtless of you to use that quote in this context. I thought you were above that but I guess i was wrong.

That poem is a thing of beauty and sacred.

Your use is profane.

Really?
Discrimination is a sociological term referring to the treatment taken toward or against a person of a certain group in consideration based solely on class or category.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrimination

3a the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually
3b prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/discrimination

Classism is prejudice and/or discrimination on the basis of social class.

Class conflict refers to the concept of underlying tensions or antagonisms which exist in society due to conflicting interests that arise from different social positions.
...
The typical example of class conflict described is class conflict within capitalism. This class conflict is seen to occur primarily between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, and takes the form of conflict over hours of work, value of wages, cost of consumer goods, the culture at work, control over parliament or bureaucracy, and economic inequality.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_envy

Anyone can be discriminated against.

I don't think you got what I was saying with that poem, so let me see if I can spell it out a little better:

"THEY TAXED the wealthiest 1%,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't in the wealthiest 1%.

THEN THEY TAXED the the wealthiest 5%,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't in the wealthiest 5%.

THEN THEY TAXED the wealthiest 10%,
...

I hope you see where I'm going with it. Eventually, the government will either:
a. tax the rich to the point they aren't rich anymore or b. force the rich out of the country.
Either way, the government will need to turn to others for their revenue.

What percent do they tax the working class, percentage of write-offs for each.
Percentage of income left for each.

How's that work out? Is the percentage the same for manual versus inherited wealth?

How about percentage for women and percentage for men.

Percentage for single mothers, percentage for single fathers.

Percentage for gay males, percentage for lesbian, percentage for lesbian single mothers?

Breakdown of income per child in the US.

What you don't get is that poem was about the holocaust. If you think that the recession, caused by the past administration's favorable policies for the wealthy, is comparable to the holocaust, you have a severe problem.

Sharon

Remember that Roy is but a 30 year old.

Maybe when he has lived a bit more, had a family, and had some hardship, he will be able to understand.

His naivete is obvious.

I pulled the poem of Wikipedia, and I read the full article there, so I'm fully aware of its origins.
I see my nation, one founded on freedom and liberty, slowly turning into a fascist regime where the state has control over everything, from industry to our bodies and our minds. It didn't start decades ago and was continued under many Bush policies. Obama's taken it into overdrive.
We're living in Germany circa 1934. I've chosen to fight against the evil of the system BEFORE it shows its true form.

Discrimination is discrimination, whether based on class, race, religion or any other factor. The rich have been demonized in this country for their success, as the Jewish people were.
This holocaust will not be built on race/religion, but on class.

Thanks Grace, that explains a lot.

Roy you have not idea about what fascism really is but, there is a branch of Nazis meeting in Lakewood, you can google them. There is also a skinhead group. They're always looking for fresh you energy.

Roy - this is an interesting statement. I know it's off-topic and probably doesn't belong on here, but would you care to expand how we're turning into a fascist regime, without quoting Beck 'n' Buddies.

I'm sorry Roy, But cmon. You started off with me holding you in high regard for your willingness to have intelligent conversations and debates. You have been slowly losing credibility ever since, as I have seen your posts go more and more radical. Now you start comparing us to Germany in 1934. Now you are just getting silly.

Jim, you're right. I started letting my passion for my opinions get in the way and it has pushed me to sound much less like I was.

After what Jim said, I think that you, Richard, may have given me an excellent chance to get myself back on track. I will take your post and start a new topic in the Global Discussion forum.

I have a good health care plan, but it's costs keep going up. The Tea Party folks seem to think the insurance companies will, in the future, lower all our rates and perhaps send us candies and bunnies out of sheer goodwill. I'm curious who's "coming for" anyone. If they don't like the majority elected party passing a bill, I'm not sure what the alternative is. Passing whatever the current mob in front of offices say?
