Sunshine Week – March 14 to 20, 2010

Post by marklingm »

Today is the kickoff of Sunshine Week!

From http://www.sunshineweek.org:

Sunshine Week is a national initiative to open a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. Participants include print, broadcast and online news media, civic groups, libraries, nonprofits, schools and others interested in the public's right to know.

Sunshine Week is led by the American Society of News Editors and is funded primarily by a challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation of Miami.

Though spearheaded by journalists, Sunshine Week is about the public's right to know what its government is doing, and why. Sunshine Week seeks to enlighten and empower people to play an active role in their government at all levels, and to give them access to information that makes their lives better and their communities stronger.

Sunshine Week is a nonpartisan initiative whose supporters are conservative, liberal and everything in between.

Matt, would you point this out to the rest of the school board?

Thanks.

I think if we just get LA to lead by example we will be doing really well!

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House is backing down from trying to get senators to remove some special deals from the health care bill.

Senior adviser David Axelrod says the White House only objected to deals that affected just one state, such one involving Medicaid and Nebraska that's being cut from the legislation.

Axelrod says that deals that could apply to more than one state are OK.

That means deals pushed by senators from Montana and Connecticut would be fine because they're written in such a way that other states could potentially qualify. (editors note: If they too vote for Obamacare)

It's a change from a couple days ago when press secretary Robert Gibbs singled out the Montana and Connecticut deals and said President Barack Obama wanted them gone.

Axelrod spoke on ABC's "This Week."

Dustin

If that is an Axelrod quote, I am very troubled. I am very tired of politicians and those
handling our future "knowing what is good for us."

In this era of technology, no reason for darkness.

From Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray:

Greetings,

This week is Sunshine Week, and to help foster a transparent and open government, my office has updated the state's Sunshine Laws Manual for 2010. The manual is an extensive resource that reinforces our dedication to open government.

The new manual can be viewed online at http://www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/YellowBook
Additionally, my office provides free training for public officials and others interested in open government and open meetings.

For more information about Ohio's Sunshine Laws, or to find a training near you, visit http://www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/Sunshine

Sincerely,

Richard Cordray
Ohio Attorney General

I is nice to sing about sunshine....
But some organizations need to reflect more Sunshine in their organizations.
That would be the best use of Sunshine!
