Foreclosures In Lakewood/, Congressman Kucinich Says Enough!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Today I got a call from Joe Benny to come down to West 25th and take a couple pictures for
Congressman Kucinich, after making sure Elizabeth would be there, I ran down to shop
the market and take some photos.

With them was Paul Bellamy, and Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis who is always a
pleasure to talk with.

media waits in the background.

The announcement of the oversight begins, in front of a landmark fro the region
the Westside Market.

The gist of the "media moment" was to talk about the latest round of help from Washington,
that seems to have completely miss Ohio, and head to Nevada, Arizona, California. "Seems
that President Obama has forgot about Cleveland." said Jim Rokakis. He also mentioned
that foreclosures in Cleveland are reaching a record pace, and wondered seriously about
what the census would show of Cleveland and the region. Dennis who has shied away
from most of the stimulus money was visible upset with the administration and was
wondering how they could over look Cleveland and Ohio.

We then headed out to the front of the Westside Market for the photos, and Dennis asked
is "Lakewood doing any better? How is the program going there to save homes?" So we
talked while I took a couple more photos than the TV cameras showed up, he did his
speech, as did Jim an Paul. I chose shopping at the Westside Market with Elizabeth!
You know, kind of cold out there.

Release:
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement after an announcement by the White House to provide $1.5 billion to five states for foreclosure prevention:

“President Obama’s decision to provide $1.5 billion from Troubled Asset Relief Program funds to assist homeowners in a select number of states is good news for some, but it falls far short of what is needed.

“For unexplained reasons, the new initiative skips some of the states hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis, such as Ohio. In Ohio, new foreclosure filings reached record levels in 2009, and are expected to get worse for 2010. In fact, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s most recent data, there are nearly 72,000 loans in Ohio that are more than 90 days past due and are receiving no relief. Making matters worse, Ohio already ranks 48th out of 50 states in terms of receiving any help from the Administration’s other major initiative, the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). I cannot understand an oversight of this magnitude. This is not acceptable and it needs to be remedied.

“Next Thursday, my Domestic Policy Subcommittee will hold our tenth hearing since 2007 exploring the ongoing foreclosure crisis. I intend to ask the Administration about the reasons for this decision,” said Kucinich. The hearing will explore the changes needed to improve the Administration’s efforts to address the foreclosure crisis in this country. A Treasury official is scheduled to testify.

As I got ready to leave to the Market, my new friend Roger stopped me to show me his
Alien art, saying "If you see this guy, run!" Roger reminded(?) me that he still makes most
of his good money winning Karaoke Contests with his rendition of 3 Elton John songs.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Candle In The Wind, and Tiny Dancer, which he started to
sing as I left for the market. It was amazing, like he was there!

Citigroup paid back $20B last quarter.

The $25B was to purchase stock that the government will sell this year to recoup its money.

Inquiring minds want to know:

Was Dennis able to confirm the existence and physiological attributes of the Alien in that drawing??

I do not believe that Congressman Kucinich has ever spoke of "Aliens" like from other planets. I believe the
actually conversation was UFOs, to which he responded that he has seen some. I think we could all answer
the same on that question.

However I am willing to bet, that like I do, he hopes that the Human Race in its present form is not the
most advanced civilization in the entire Universe of over 1 billion galaxies, and trillions of solar systems.
But I have never spoke with him about that, or ever heard him refer to it other than that time he was asked
and answered truthfully, though maybe not the best for a career move. But that would describe the
Congressman anyway. Always willing to put it out there even if it does not make him popular.

Roger never really went to the Congressman with the picture, once he knew I could get it online and report
his Karaoke money making project he seemed happy to just wander off.

FWIW

its money?? Whether or not Citibank repaid its government "loan" / welfare was not my point . It was the contrast in "bail-out" amounts for the people vs. Citigroup.

Well, first, what about the benefits in the stimulus package?

We could get into a whole discussion about "too big to fail", but that's a topic for a different thread. Suffice to say that the banking industry is so incestuous, taking someone like Citi out of the mix could have been the equivalent of pulling the wrong piece out of a Jenga tower.

Frontline on PBS had a really informative show explaining the history of TARP about a year ago. If you can track it down, I'd highly recommend it.

(EDIT) Found it: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/meltdown/view/

Here's a nifty 2 point plan to help the foreclosure crisis:

1) concentrate on jobs

2) stop loaning money to those that can't afford it

That wasn't an alien, it was our government sucking the blood out of middle class America :)

You sound almost like a Kucnich clone. Everything you are saying he has not only said, but has used his
position on oversight, to look into.

Go past the hype, read and listen to him.

You might want to remember he voted against the bail-out, and also voted everytime possible against a
war America never could afford to get involved in at this time. Was outraged over the banking crisis, the
housing bubble, which he always said was going to burst, and Federal Reserve printing money on their own.
Has always worked for FAIR TRADE so that we could keep jobs here.

We have a well know conservative here, that used to bash Congressman Kucinich ever chance he got. I finally
got him to actually read and listen to him, and now he is a fan.

You want to feel like an American, go down to his office and ask to speak to him. If you want, I can set up
an interview, but you can just walk in there. I think you will be blown away by just who he really is. He is
the real deal and he is fighting for you and me, and Lakewood. Biggest problem he is too honest. He does not
want bridges to nowhere. He wants peace. He does not need a highway to his apartment complex, he wants
a future for your kids. He does not want high living, he lives where he grew up once his family could actually
by a home, and would rather see safe healthy food and water for you and your family.

Congressman's office less than a mile from your house. Go debate him, let me know how it works out.

We are lucky, believe it or not, we are very lucky.

When I said "government sucking the blood", it wasn't directed specifically at Dennis nor was it directed towards our local government.

I don't have the desire to debate him. I'm sure he gets enough of that. It would be great to meet him socially and not talk shop.
