Another Lakewood school closing...
Yesterday, SS Cyril & Methodius School (on Madison), which had been in operation for over 100 years, notified parents that the school will be closing with this end of this school year.
I am sad to see the school close - my daughter was a student there for kindergarten last year, and it was a very nice school. I loved the view from the classroom and hall windows - you could look out and see the various Birdtown "onion-dome" churches in the skyline, and the busy eastern portion of Detroit...
Even though SS C&M had received a US Blue Ribbon Award for excellence in education just a few years back, for some reason the school could not sustain enrollment in recent years.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I've heard such wonderful things about the school.

John
One day we loose two blue ribbon schools.
I have also heard that we are losing Father Duke.
When I think of what, and who we have lost the past three years, it is tough.
Thanks for the note.

Jim - yes, it is true about Fr. Duke, who is really a "Lakewood Legend", in his own right.

Closing schools, not matter the school, is always a loss for a city. I've always heard great things about this school.
I wonder if most of the students were Lakewood kids. I assume they are. Of course, some families may choose another private school to attend, some may try Lakewood Schools. I hope they do. Yet, I can't help think that this is just the kind of thing some of us are worried about now that the decision has been made to go to 6 elementary schools in the Lakewood District. Lakewood Schools will have to find room for some of these students. God help us if Lakewood Catholic Academy closes.

Any idea of how many students there?

I want to say less than 100, but don't hold me to that.

It's not a huge school but looking at the big picture if most of them reside in the Harrison area even a few students added to a school that is already approaching max capacity could be a big problem.

There is just north of 100 at the school across grades k-8. Because it is not a territorial parish, kids come to the school from all over Lakewood and western Cleveland.
