Ok, I'll bite-

Would that qualify as a form of graffiti, or is that legal?

Anyway, I guess it's the big bad wolf that "runs dat block" now. I think that's a wolf, it looks more like a cat with horse-like legs.

Good question Rhonda. No one I know. We were busy with our own flyers that Meg posted in the other thread. But talking to people this weekend I've found that there are a lot of unhappy people out there, not surprising though given the way all this has been going.

I'm dying! When I saw this thread I figured you had stumbled across one
of the many flyiers I have seen in coffee shops, and Tommy's that scream
SAVE GRANT and the rest is in Arabic, with it in Albanian on the back.

Funny how while this has divided the city yet brought so many others together.
Albanians and Mid-Easterners pulling together with register voter campaigns.
5,000 newly registered Albanians living in Lakewood that were going to try their
first be voting block, as one told me over coffee "Voting proudly for Ed FitzGerald for
that county job. Well unless Cipperman decides to run." Gotta love it.

The Save Grant flier distribution is amazing. I'm enthused no end.

Sharon

I really only have one dog in this fight and every board member knows what it is. I voiced
it to them nearly two years ago, and I am waiting until the whole deal is done to weigh in.
Let's just say my gripe is more process related than subject related.

However it has been amazing watching not just Grant and Lincoln compete for survival, but
the groups that are being formed within these divides. I really have not see this kind of
grassroots activism since some wanted to build that strip mall at the end of Detroit, so
that the Cliffs would be worth more money.

I have also never seen so many people competing heavily just to win, not to really
accomplish what they want, just to WIN, WIN, WIN. The south end of the city has once
again come together, through friendship, nationalities, even school programs. Forgetting
party lines, just working together because so many feel cheated by the process, and
hope that the entire district does the right thing. Again one group speaks of a school
another speaks of the district and the desperate need for oversight. Democracy and
due process are amazing things to see first hand.

Sharon, you are right, the mobilization, though late, is amazing.

FWIW

Jim, I hope people understand that a group of concerned, myself included has worked hard to keep this civil. We posted in the other thread our flyer that was distributed. We have been out on the streets talking to people many who didn't know anything about what has been happening. I've been amazed by the group of Lakewoodites that has come together over this. Parents from several schools and non-parents even. People that get that this isn't an issue of one school versus another as we have been accused of but an issue that will change the face of an entire community. It is wonderful to work with a group of people so willing to get the facts out there but to do so in a calm manner, once again a group that's first message is keep all the schools open. That is our core message. But if they won't even attempt that then a central school site is a must. It's a good message coming from a group of good people.

I understand that people are angry though and I am certain that is why the flyer in this thread came about. People see too many similarities between past events. It's so sad because right now the community should be coming together to get the levy passed. But some people are so far past trusting and really, who can blame them?

Odd, I just got an email from "The Institute For Justice" asking about Lakewood, and this
very thing. I was one of 10 names on the list, and it really took me back, and made me
remember how, the people working hardest against the strip mall came from Wynadotte,
Clifton Blvd., Grace Avenue, not the Scenic Park District.

Saturday I was listening to some at the next table talk about how they worked so hard to
help the levies through in the past, but only did so after forming a group to oversee, and
become watch dogs during the Kalisch days, and that maybe the need is there again, or
was always there and parents just got complicant.

No matter, getting the city together, getting everyone registered to vote, people taking an
active interest in the schools, and city hall, is a good thing in a democracy. Like open and honest
discussion, nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide. Which always make me wonder
about those that have run and hid.

Lakewood, will survive, and we will be stronger for the process.
