Opportunity.

Maybe you cannot appreciate the NEED for a place that serves ok burgers and wings, and
onion rings on antennas!

If you watched the video, many tie ins with Virgina Marti, the high school, local businesses like
insurance, and er ah er exercise places, and like here...

Win, win, win, win, win

We are not talking Trader Joe's rebranded Eggo Waffles. This is cars, bikes, ok burgers and wings,
onion rings on antennas and well you watched the video. That one woman made $300 in
a little over 30 seconds! 2nd place was $200!

Can we all say economic development?

Quick lesson in the world of Lakewood's Spiral Dynamics. Find something anything they
can latch onto, and put it in the sales pitch and run it home, er I mean hit a home run.

Economic development, with all of the taxes generated, will provide more police, cleaner streets,
better schools, more alternative white meat, opportunities for schools and business, and provides
the one thing we lack most, that you want. I promise.

It did occur to me last night that I have been to QS&Ls as small as a trailer at "Field of Dreams."

FWIW

People have written and called to ask if I am serious. I have not misled or exaggerated
once in this thread. The story of Sunday's at the O'Bryan's boringly accurate. I have to
agree with Kate that Berea Road, right off I-90 would be better suited. All depends on
what you are trying to bring "DowntowN" I suppose.

Does anyone else see the irony in the type of food this new restaurant purveys and the Lakewood Alive and Well promotion?

Between all the bar food, burgers and beer, wing city, blinking geckos, and Melted goo, a Lakewoodite living on food from these popular establishments will likely end up at the Cardiac Care ward of Lakewood Hospital sooner than they imagined.

Well see, if "they" bring in all the greasy food you can eat, think of how "they" can promote the walk/roll thing they do. *giggles*

Grace,

The irony is not lost on me. Thankfully Julie and company are planning to offer great meal alternatives just down the road at The Root.

It should be noted that Lakewood Alive and Well is a promotion between The City of
Lakewood, Lakewood Alive and Lakewood Hospital. You can keep up on this program
in the Wellness Watch section of the Lakewood Observer.

The problem is, when you try to do everything and take credit for even more, you are going to
have these tiny glitches in message overlap. This is why I am saying take a step back and look
at the bigger picture they are trying to do. No not run the entire city secretly answering to no one.
Economic Development.
The crossover with the leather fashion shows works well with high school home economics, local businesses,
Virgina Marti, Car Night, Bike Night will spill over to all of the local bars in the summer, the various
concerts until 11 on their outdoor stage might give local bands and maybe even The Lakewood
Project another great venue, and then when women get paid $18,000 an hour for doing whatever
gets them the vote, although for only 1 minute at a time, it adds high paying jobs to the economy.

You know, I am starting to think this regionalism thing has great potential.

Now I want to see the business plan for turning Clifton Beach into a place like Mentor's Grand
River complex. Then all of Lakewood can cash in to the regional dream! Oh yeah!

Kar Kulture show anyone?

Jimmy we used to have tons of motorcycles here in the 70's. Starting point Telstar, last call at Hennesseys. Lakewoodites weren't real happy with us. But I had a really good time.

I'd rather see Eat-n-Park but, hey, what do I know.

As far as economic development goes, personally I think we would do well to have more small industrial sections and offices. Less traffic, less need for extra police and road repairs. Rita taxes would be my priority if I was a lawmaker.

Sharon

Kar Luture would be redunit then, which would make some happy. The same group they hated the
Telstar and Hennesy's crowd. Damn I was trying to think of Hennesy's the other night. A couple years
ago I was walking with Tom George and we were reminiscing, Lakewood's crazier days. All good fun.

My single biggest problems with all of these chains, is they compete unfairly with the mom and pop
locally owned restaurants, many of which are really having tough times. Now if their food, service,
or ambiance is bad, then I have no pity for them. But most, crank out a pretty damn good product
at a very reasonable price. Most have the burden of paying higher taxes as they live and work here.

All Lakewood needs, I mean it is Clean, Safe and Fun. Clean and safe have been promised in the
last three elections, well er, ahh, err, how about if we just pick clean or safe for right now. When
I look at where Lakewood was 10 and 5 years ago, it is very frustrating. I see a ton of $$$$$$ and
effort going down a rabbit hole. For what?

But hey that's me. I still think Lakewood has a bright future, but we have to stop doing the same
thing with the same people again, and again, and again, and again. Just because they change names,
and slightly shuffle the order, I belive it still falls into one of the definitions of insanity. Doing the
same thing again and again and again and think you will get a different result.

Quaker Steak & Lube may walk away now

Post by Corey Rossen »

AP - Apparently, the corporate office in Sharon, PA was just notified that Jim O'Bryan would be their biggest fan and proponent to moving into Lakewood. They quickly packed their bags and fired the architect and planners that thought it would be a good idea to give JOB a new hangout so close to home. I don't think it was the staulking they were afraid of, but more in terms of the hovering and drooling.

Headlines will soon read, "JOB saves Lakewood!" from corporate takeover.

Meg

Thanks for the link.

It is nice to see that LakewoodAlive is opening up to such economic development projects
at Quaker Steak and Lube. It is not often we can bring in $18,000 an hour job for the young
women of the community, while making it fit nicely and blend in "with the architecture of
the Lakewood Christian Church and Masonic Temple."

At least we are not selling out just to claim progress is being made.

Love it when a plan comes together.

Maybe the owners of the plaza can pay up their back property taxes of $400,000? If anyone went to the joint council / school board meeting this past monday, payment of back taxes is one of the reasons the schools need an operating levy.

Sun Post wrote:A two-story centerpiece may be constructed to distinguish the plaza and could possibly provide an atrium with interior lighting, Crampton says.

“The point is to create an inviting focal point coming from Madison Avenue,” she said. “Right now the downtown district isn’t distinguishable and as you look down onto the plaza, it’s nondescript. Now you’ll be able to glance down the street and know where it is.”

Maybe we don't need those wayfinding signs now? :)

Charlie again brings up the most important point ... where does a developer..hiding behind a LLC ... raise capital for signficant renovations when they haven't bothered to pay a dime of property taxes for years?

Kate

Because it is not going to be there.

Go back and read the quote of Mary Anne Crampton.

Don't you get it?

The barely upper "Lakewood" middle class (Morlocks) come to eat and harvest Grant
school (the Eloi.), for thier Bikini contests. Because they have some abstract view that
chains are better than people. Especially, "those people." Possibly that has something to
do with the people they hang around with?

As was once stated, by the Big Box Queen, "The gifted will find like minded people and lead us
out of the darkness." Maybe they could start by using legal extension cords, keeping light bulbs
lit, and flowers alive. Matter of fact you should have to be able to prove you can keep flowers
alive before using the name in conjunction with Lakewood.
