Looks like Avon Lake is one of the only westside districts to send in an application.

That's disturbing.

I would think Lakewood and other districts with similar challenges would be the perfect targets for this money.

In looking over the list, I noticed some private, well-endowed schools. Hmmm.

I think an explanation is in order here from the school board and superintendent.

Perhaps Mr. Markling would comment.

OK, I've waited politely, but shouldn't someone respond to this?

Why didn't the Lakewood Schools apply for the Stimulus monies? I'm sure there must be a good reason.

Please provide some more information on this or I believe that this tidbit of info will negatively impact the school levy.

Why would anyone in Lakewood vote to raise their taxes when the schools could have received stimulus money but did not even apply for it?

HELLO, anyone out there? Mr. Markling? Mr. Favre? Please let us know what actually happened.

Saw this in the New York Times this morning......Could be the reason.

Perry stood next to Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott and representatives of teachers' unions and said taking the money would force the state to adopt national education and testing standards and result in Texas losing its autonomy in educating children.

Huh? We already have national testing and standards, called the NCLB Act. And they had NO choice in that instance.

Right, because the state of Texas has a phenomenal record of producing geniuses.
