School Board Article Lopsided Approach

Post by Corey Rossen »

I am eagerly awaiting viewing the BOE meeting on Channel 74. I am curious as to why Betsy Voinovich only quoted Board Member, Matt Markling, in her article. Is it because he was the only BOE Member in support of keeping Grant and closing Lincoln, as her quotes blatantly persuade people to believe?

Also, citing one converted Lincoln parent is hardly newsworthy, let alone close to being considered journalism, lack of sample size aside, it is a pure Bush League tactic. It would be best served for the reading audience to have the author come out and say, "Here is an article I am writing to swing the readers to keep Grant, I hope my headline is bigger than any article written to keep Lincoln. I will use BOE Member, Matt Markling, as my poster boy to prove my point by using his quotes to convey my message."

I am eager to see the rest of the meeting, I am sorry I missed it.

The nature of the paper. You have written for it, you know the process. I would encourage
anyone to step up and write about the meeting, and/orpost here so us TAX PAYERS do
not feel totally left out of the discussion. Watch the 74 broadcasts too get involved, ask
questions.

Doesn't the video broadcast of the now infamous "What is best for Lakeview" meeting
and the board's hired gun come first?

THAT IS THE VIDEO I WANT TO WATCH, just so I can keep a fair perspective on this.

OR for that matter the "Mission Accomplished" meeting a couple weeks ago.

Good thing we have those complete non-edited video references so us tax payers
feel better about the process. Where are the videos of the Phase III meetings too?

Persuaded: not in this lifetime by that article. You never know what is going on behind the closed doors at the BOE...the lead dog gives you a sniff while the rest of pack is preparing for the kill. (mission accomplished) :)

Hi guys,

Just checked in here, more to say later. Corey, for now, I included the info about the Board meeting on Channel 74 so you could check it out for yourself. Please do. It was one of the best meetings I ever attended because of the comments from citizens at the beginning. Matt Markling is not a "poster boy." He is the only school board member thus far that has given any indication that he has read the reports prepared by the Phase 3 committee and that he is checking out the information for himself, to better prepare for the decision they all have to make.

The other amazing thing about that meeting is that it was opened with performances by different musical groups and musicians from Lakewood High School. It was a fantastic idea to open that particular meeting with proof of what is so great about Lakewood, and why we should be proud of our school system.

Off to get kids ready to go to one of those great schools right now.

Jim, I appreciate the efforts of the Lo, and am not commenting on the paper itself, but rather the content of this particular article. Since you did mention it, though, I know you, or someone on staff, reads each piece submitted and are capable of putting it in it appropiate place in the newspaper. This piece, however, should have been placed in the Editorial section because of its content and intent.

On a sidebar, I am madly and passionately in love with you and the paper for all you have done to help Jordan's Family Foundation get off the ground and succeed as much as we have thus far. Your placement of our articles and advertisements in the paper has greatly contributed to our success in helping kids and families around the world with Congenital Heart Diseases.

Christine

Happy Hollidays. Do you have the schedule for the meeting before that? That would be the
"Lakeview" meeting?

Thanks in advance.

Why is it always a "Straight Guy" crush? Just once couldn't it just be about who I am,
without all the qualifiers. :(

Jim, Happy holidays to you as well. The meeting you are referring to was on Nov. 16. Right now, only December school events are airing on Channel 74.

Where can I get a copy of that tape. A couple of us are writing a review of the process and
I do not seem to have that one in my collection.

Thanks in advance.

Jim, you need to make a written public records request with the school district's public records officer Rick Berdine. You can submit it via email torick.berdine@lakewoodcityschools.org

Of course, I always forget how easy it is to get this stuff.

Have that address taped right to my wall.

Simple letter and 6 months later bam! there it is.

Sure makes it easy on us tax payers that pay you guys.
