Photo Gallery Update

We are constantly working on the software that powers this website and the project, I am
always interested in ideas that can make the project better, and easier. While making
changes to the front end, the crew surprised us with a new gallery.

Any thoughts on the workings?

It can be done easily. However just as important as the photo is the caption, in the
big picture maybe even more important as the caption can be googled, the photo id
cannot.

As the photo gallery is a great "city definer" and "city marketing tool" I am still
very partial to load a photo write a caption.

But that is the input I am looking for.

That is based on your upload speed, not on our end.

I second the mass upload request. If I do upload captions, I do them after I uploaded all the photos in the gallery and they're all listed.

Ivor...that is the best way to add captions...your right!

Can you put something like...LO across the photo so no one can steal it for their own use?

I have had that problem and I know Ivor has too...I might take and post more photos if I know that people that are not authorized to use the photos can not use them usefully....especially to promote their own agenda.

Yep, a watermarking tool would be really cool. That way we can upload clean files that can be used in print, but at the same time protect our work from being stolen. Let me put it this way, if the thieves paid me for the work they stole from me, I would be living in another state right now.

Unfortunately, people have the money to pay their lawyers to click through every image on my website twice and not ever contact me to resolve these issues. If your lawyers spend more time admiring my work than trying to figure out how to help your case, it validates that my work is worth paying for even more than legal laws which protect it from being free for the masses.

There are certain events I will not photo because I know if I post I will find them somewhere where they are not authorized to belong...but if this could done I would take and post and everyone could enjoy and they would be no use to those that are not authorized to use them.

That is what the photo deck is for everyone...so we need to protect those photos so we feel confident to post.

I noticed that neither of you add a simple ©2009 to your galleries.

Adobe Photoshop offers a watermark just for the web, that is invisible, but can be found
by their web crawlers if you own Photoshop and subscribe to the Watermark program.

Finally with ©2009 The Lakewood Observer will lend legal expertise to any contributor
that has found their work stolen. Ivor, I believe you have already benefitted from this service.

I've mentioned this before and heard it from others as well: it'd be nice if when you saw a nice photo on the homepage and clicked on it, it took you to that photo and not the general photo page where you then have no idea how to find what you just saw.

If you're on the LO homepage, it cycles through photos on the right hand side under the 'Photo Galleries' title. If you like one of these photos and click on it, though, it doesn't take you to that photo, it takes you to the menu of all photoblogs. I can see why this might be where you'd want the link to go, but it's frustrating to someone who wants to see THAT photo because they now have no idea how to find it.
