YES on Issue 6 - Yard Signs Available

Post by John Farina »

Hello Neighbors! For those of you who are supporting Issue 6 - the real county government reform issue - I have yard signs available! Please send me a PM and I'd be happy to plant one in your lawn.

Cheers!!

Can you explain the issue? I saw one of those signs coming off the 90 ramp today and realized I hadn't heard much about those two issues compared to some of the others. (I suppose I should stop being lazy and go look it up myself, but I guess either way I'd like to know why people support or oppose it...)

Heather,

Here is a link to the League of Women Voters website. I hope it is helpful.

http://www.lwvcuyahogaarea.org/

Issue 5 was put on the ballot by the current county commissioners to create a commission to study potentially new forms of government for Cuyahoga County.

Issue 6 is a new charter that eliminates the old and currently corrupt county structure and replaces it with a new 11 member elected council representing regions within the county that somewhat mirror the state rep districts, a county executive (mayor), and the old offices (recorder, coroner, treasurer, etc) are combined and appointed.

In my opinion there is no need to study how ineffective and corrupt the county government is, it's time to replace it.

While I tend to support 6, we must all remind ourselves that it's people that are corrupt, not systems.

Bad people can find "opportunities" in any system. I do not think anyone can guarantee that changing the system will prevent individuals from exercising corrupt tendencies?

David is absolutely correct--- it seems that the linchpin in a lot of this mess has been someone lurking in the big middle of the county bureaucracy.
Changes at the top and structure won't address this problem.
Frankly, I'm voting against both Issue 5 and 6.
Issue 5 is a transparent bogus reaction.
Issue 6 is just a strange thing and I REALLY object to their TV ads equating economic decline to local corruption.
In the interim--- let's just hope that the Feds are the only honest brokers in this low rent version of corruption.
